These guys are the best. Caps are 10megabits down, and 1megabit up. I've never had speed slowdowns - consistent 9500/950 speeds. They do put some limits on you if you upload huge amounts - does not affect me.
Had the service for over 7 years, no significant problems or downtime.
Update: They raised the caps to 15/2!! No increase in price. I get consistent 13.5/1.8 speeds.
Update: They eliminated "capping" where they used to limit your upload speed to 150kbps if you uploaded a lot.
Update: Still working great!! No issues.
Update May, 2009: Been about 9 years. Same price, increased speeds. Not had any problems - consistent speeds, rare outages.
Update November, 2009: Still going strong. Moved to a new address, transfer went fine.

I ordered the Boost package 30/5 and am getting it for $44.95 the 1st year upon moving to Bayonne. The install was fine, the guy was neat about everything and on time.
But after 2 weeks of it I am probably going to pay more for FIOS and just switch now. The speeds arent even close to consistent testing on speedtest.net using cablevisions server as well as others. I called tech support and while polite and helpful there is no explanation for the speeds constantly fluctuating. The wire from the pole to my modem with no splitters (only internet installed here) is newly installed and all signals are well within range (called support to check if there were issues in the area and to be sure of signal levels being OK). It seems to be congestion because days before people are home from work/school and late, late nights it is fine. Its only from late afternoon and nights till 1 AMish that this is a problem. Its a shame but I just cant stay with such inconsistent service, as much as I like CV (I worked in the OOL support dept many moons ago), I feel like Im being cheated with this and I know the support routine there so Im not even gonna bother with the back and forth of calling them.
UPDATE: After 2 months I gave up, they could not get my speeds even close to 30 down. I switched to FIOS and have had rock solid speeds every second since. I will say this, CV has some very good support people who tried their best to solve this problem. The plant guys were the issue here and it seems they do not care or want to do their job to correct issues. Many thanks to the techs in the OOL staff forum here, they tried hard but just couldnt get it done.

There were no other options at the time we signed up. Verizon Wireless is now available, but we are staying with Optimum for now.

OOL technicians have taken at least 3+ years to fix our signal leak problem. After each "repair", the connection and speed would be as advertised for anywhere from 2weeks to 1 month and the speed would drop dramatically, anywhere from 10mbps down to less than 300kbps. After successfully repairing into 2 weeks ago, the speed has dropped once again. I 100% do not recommend this ISP if others are available.

After killing 8 USR phone modems from lighting I went with OOL. Online gaming was cool but i still had very poor pings. Cablevision told me that Boost may help,so i got it. Remember building my first water cooled Opteron PC with a 300fsb,XTPE. Boost gave me the online speed I had been lacking. There were a few game sites in England that I played daily. Updates downloads patches would come close to 3meg in a sec. Every time I visited DSLReports my OOL speed test results made the first or 2nd page of the OOL tests, 32=33meg down 5meg up cool. Each year my PCs get faster, game PC is @4300-4500+ for the last 12 months I use all intel Nics with cat 6 and good shielded cable from pole. Download speed drops every month,Upload is a good 5200. Never see any any more 33meg. OOL results on result page. For years OOL results were always +33000 not any more. Now average DSLReports speed on Boost results is below 31000meg for Boost. I can still post a good first page DSLReports OOL speed result @32+meg but it is getting very hard to do time setting etc. My average Boost download in USA is 10meg. If I needed good reliable speed I would go with FIOS. Do not expect to get BOOST and get 30 down. It is sad to see so many poor result posts from a company that was once so good. I have had optimum online for over 2 years and constitantly been pleased with it, moved to another location that had fios as an option but since the house was already wired for directv didn't choose fios, as far as the internet service goes I'm very pleased with optimum, I hated there cable service, so leaving for anything directv or fios was a no brainer for me.
Honestly I choose optimum over fios because I had a lot to do while moving and I didn't want to have to babysit a verizon fios installer all day when I had a lot to do.
and while technically better technology, we have fios at work and the speeds and pings are almost identical, so I choose the shorter install time and cheaper price (well for the first 12 months atleast)

"In 12 months, the modem has only gone down once, for about two days."
"Connection Speed nowhere near advertised (and I pay extra for the BOOST), in fact, it's not even as fast as their base modem. ."
"Most reliable service I've had in New York for connectivity, but also the slowest, with most expensive and poorly coordinated sr"

Very good connectivity, (in the year that I've had service, I've only had modem downtime for about 2 days, and it just happened this past weekend). But the speed is a joke. Not only have I never even come near their advertised speed of 30mbps for their BOOST service, which I of course pay extra for, but I rarely, if ever even get their advertised speed for their base modem. Their customer service, like all the other cable providers in NYC (and I've now used them all, RCN and Time Warner being the other two), is atrocious (and actually, RCN's was pretty solid). Their service line is fully automated, with very long wait times for a human, who doesn't seem very well trained in IT, if trained at all. I'm very much looking forward to FIOS arriving, if it ever will.

I am coming from Speakeasy. I move because of the speed and the price. Optonline is OK but there speeds keep getting slower and I have boost but am still not near 30. I am between 10-20 at time. But never got near 30 yet.
