SMC8014WN modem/router -- Where are the advanced settings?

Just got a a SMC8014WN installed (renting it). It seems to be really locked down as far as my access to it's settings. For instance, the installer set the wireless to WEP, but nowhere in the control panel can I change it. I'm going to 192.688.0.1 and using the default u/n p/w (cusadmin, password). Is there a "power user" logon? Or another hidden URL to get to the features I know this thing has?

Thanks,

Wireless service from Suddenlink?

I was just looking at available wireless networks, from my notebook, here in Winterville, NC, and saw something interested.

I saw two networks, named SUDDENLINK.NET-44F5
and SUDDENLINK.NET-26FD

Both were secure, and having different signal levels.

I realize anyone can name their SSID whatever they want,
but found those very intersting.

Any clues anyone?

West Virginia - Fibernet running fiber outside my home

I know its the wrong forum, but I can't find a Fibernet thread anywhere, so my apologies.

For the past two days, I've noticed that Fibernet is running fiber (my area has poles not underground). Last night, they left the spool attached to the line and I snapped a picture of it. http://twitpic.com/ocye7

I've heard that Fibernet is upgrading their network, that they offer Fiber to the Business and yes, I do live in a business district.

However, we live in a row house courtyard with 21 homes...none of which is business... they've run the fiber up and down the back alleys of the courtyard which makes me wonder if this is fiber to the home?

Wishful thinking I know especially since Verizon FIOS wont happen ever now that Frontier is buying them out.

Any thoughts?

New Download and upload speeds

Recently Suddenlink, at no additional cost the the customer, upped the speeds, in my area, from 6000/256 to 8000/768. That would be a great thing if you were able to achieve the advertised speeds. The new 8000 down is a joke. Since the change in speeds, I am lucky to get 5000 to 6000 down. The uploads are great nearly always in the 800 range. On the other hand, my ping has again left the playing field. Before the change, I was pinging in the high 20's to mid 30's, SAME SERVERS as before, now I ping consistently in the high 60's to 90's. I assume that I will be stuck with Suddenlink unless I leave the area where I live.

Suddenlink Phone in WV

According to the Suddenlink rep I spoke to, I can get their phone service for only $20 more per month that I currently pay. That would be an overall savings of ~$50 compared to Verizon. Before I take the leap, I'd like some input. Their website offers too little information, so I'm asking you folks for help here.

* My Verizon package gives me unlimited calling anywhere in the US, its territories, and Canada. Does Suddenlink phone offer this?

* How is the sound quality? I live in the Pt. Pleasant area, if that matters.

* Is the pricing information the lady gave me accurate, or is this a "low introductory rate?"

* How invasive (and costly) is the installation process? At present, I rent, so I can't just start ripping stuff apart willy nilly.

* How big of a pain is it to keep my current number?

* Do the additional features (Anonymous Call Rejection, Call Waiting, Call Waiting ID, Caller ID Name & Number, Call Blocking, Three-Way Calling, Call Forwarding, TV Caller ID) cost extra?

* If there's anything I should know, please fill me in.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

What's up with this ping loss situation?

http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2584079

Can someone advise me as to what is causing this, and what other tests i can perform? I can't get much of a solid connection-- I've just updated my router's firmware, selected pingable, and I'm running windows 7. I'm not sure how to read this data except for the 3 out of 4 "FAIL" remarks. I failed something, so perhaps I'm onto something. There wasn't a guide that i could find about these failed tests. Please advise... any help is much appreciated.

Eureka, Ca

edit 1: turned off firewall entirely, still got similar results
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2584099

edit 2: turned off avast and rearranged cable modem and router far far away from potential electromagnetic interference.
