adding wireless router and wireless printer

I asked for advice several months ago and received great advice and now I have a steady reliable connection. So, now I want to get my network setup like I previously had with my DSL. My old set-up was speed stream modem to a dlink dir-625 router. I removed one of the dlink antenna's and connected it to an outside 11.8 db Omni-Directional Antenna. With this set-up my husband was able to get a wireless connection in his shop several hundred feet way and I could use my laptop in our pavilion in the back yard. Can I just disable the wireless signal on the Motorola sb900 and use the same set-up like before? I quickly tried connecting the router to the Motorola without disabling the wireless and I lost my connection on my desktop. My laptop did connect. I've been reading the forum and now realize I have to do the power cycle thing. Can some one please tell me where in the power cycle order would I turn on the wireless printer? And do you think the dlink will work with this Motorola so I can use the outside antenna? Thanks, Linda

Motorola 5100 Modem

I have a Motorola 5100 modem, looking at comcast site, it is still ok to use on their 16mb tier.

But this morning I had a rep on the phone tell me it isn't.
My speeds are a consistant 6 to 7down and a little over 2 up consistently.
Never close to 16.

Anyone out there know if this modem is compatible with this tier.
Its still docsis 2 from my understanding. but just doesn't want to get near the speeds I should be getting to.
Level of the modem are good or I would post them again. In fact they are posted in another thread here from mid last week. 40/39 down, 33 up

Anyone have this modem and get close to the 16 down? (whats expected, I know I'm not gonna see 16, but even 10-12 would be nice) Not a consistant 6, maybe 7 down.

Thanks for any response

[Connectivity] Comcast Download Speed normal but Upload speed ve

So I have comcast triple play which means I have their Arris modem. Last saturday I noticed some lag in my internet and found that my upload is under 200kbps or it just errors out during speed tests. A technician came the next day and replaced my modem and everything was back to normal for 3 days. Then starting wednesday my upload started being very slow again? Is there an explanation for this since I have brand new wiring and modem?

[CDV] What does it take to get Caller ID on TV working?

Just curious, been a comcast customer for years, signed up for triple play over a month ago. Have called in 6 times to get the Caller ID fixed... still not working. Last time a supervisor told me he would get it working in 24 hrs and call me back the next day... no call and not working. So that makes 3 call backs that never happened.

Each time I call in they say "oh yeah, the codes are not entered in your account. We will put those in and it will be working in 48 hours." And/or they expedite the issue still with no resolution.

Hoping a Comcast tech on this forum can look into the issue and get it working... or someone can give me a direct person to contact.

Seems like a fairly issue to get working.

My comcast experence

Comcast's so called help and support is a joke. It's a bunch of college kids reading a web based FAQ and when that fails they use the line "We need to setup a appointment for a tech to come out". Here is my story.

I decided to switch from AT&T to comcast. This would let me save about 20 bucks a month, even though I never liked the cable company. I signed up for the HD TV package, VoIP and internet. To save a bit on the install fee I only wanted them to install the phone since I didn't have the proper tools and leave the rest to me. A contracted installer shows up and I point out where the phone jack and cable jack are located in my home office. I went into the living room to read a magazine while the cable guy did his thing for the phone. About a hour later he tells me it's ready to go and I just have to sign my name away, I sign on the dotted line and he leaves. Twenty minutes later I turn on the TV and it hits me, he forgot my HD cable box then I soon notice there is no picture. I check the other rooms and they're fine. I went to the office and noticed he also didn't leave a cable modem. I took a look at the phone's modem and found out it was one of those Motorola two in ones and he even setup the internet. He plugged the cable modem directly into my PC and disconnected it from the router. I looked at the work order and sure enough I got screwed over. He charged me 50 bucks per line that was ran, he ran three lines, two cable and one phone, I was quoted 90 bucks for the install. I called up comcast and they basically told me oh well. for the install and they will send some one out with in a week to drop off the HD box. Finally after two days I went up to the local "comcast store" and picked up my own box. I got home and hooked up the cable box, it included everything but the HDMI cable!! Had to turn around and go to wal-mart for a HDMI cable and while I was at it I went for a optical sound cable. Got back home and finished the install. Still no picture at all I started troubleshooting and found out I had a drop-amp on the side of the house. I disconnected it and then had to go back to walmart for a splitter and a small coax cable. installed a splitter and finally regained signal for the living room. I called up comcast to complain on the repairs I had to make and there was HDMI cable and they said "We do not include the HDMI cable", yet you can buy the box directly from Motorola and it comes with a 3ft HDMI cable. They said they would knock off two days off the bill. Since I got the TV portion fixed I went to fix my network issue and connect the cable modem to the router. Ran into another huge problem. The MAC address on my computer's NIC was registered to that modem. I had to go out and buy a new router that had MAC address cloning abilities and a new NIC for my PC. I had to loose the 5 port USB card in my system to use the new NIC since my motherboard only has one PCI-E 16x and one PCI. I called them once again and they told me they will wave the first month, they never did. A week later I had to fax a paper and found out my fax machine had no signal. Come to find out the idiot hardwired the Cat5e cable from the wall. He couldn't be bothered to install a 5 cent RJ11 connector or use 4 spade connectors and splice into the socket. Once again I had to roll up my sleeves and fix that issue. Went to radio shack and bought some spade crimp connectors, reinstalled the socket and was back in business.

So lets see here, $250 for a crappy install and about $100 in repairs including gas/wear and tear for the vehicle.

[Speed] Equipment Power Cycle Needed every 3 days

I'm on the 12/2 connection in a Docsis 3 area. What happens is my speed is great for about three days, then my download speeds won't go above 4Mbps. The only way for me to correct this is to power cycle both the router and modem. I think that this is an internal networking issue, but I'm curious if I would experience the same issue if I upgrade to a D3 modem. I just power cycled both router and modem this morning, I should have run more tests while things were "broken." I will let it happen again and post my results once again. Thoughts?

[Speed] Promised 12MB but getting no more than 4MB!

I have been a Comcast customer for little over 2 weeks in South Florida. However, I have had so many problems and I am just talking to the air with their customer service. All they do is send me a technician and technician checks the usual stuff, finds nothing and leaves.

Maybe I am wrong so, please put your comments here.

I have triple plan and my internet speed is 12MB. Well, it is supposed to be. I have been trying to explain them that I am not getting more than 4MB and sometimes get 5-6MB. My previous internet provider was supposed to give me 8MB and when I checked my speed here at DSL Reports, it would show 6-7MB usually but never below 5MB. I am aware that I am not supposed to get 12MB but I expect at least 8-9MB.

So, they sent the first technician. He says why are you checking DSL Reports? We do not check there, we check http://www.speedtest.net/ or http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ for tests. When I check these two sites, my speed is well above 12MB, like 18-20MB and upload is above 2MB which is supposed to be my maximum upload speed. Then I showed him my speed here which was 3700Kbps and he was like this is wrong. I said look my upload shows 1800kbps, that is working. Then he was like you know too much but finally agreed that something was wrong. He left and problem of course did not go away. Then today another guy came, same thing. He said you have to check the sites we tell you and if it shows good speeds, then you are good :) I said look I need good download speeds because I sometimes watch live stream sports online. He said we have a plan for that you need to pay extra and get 50MB then. I said I do not want 50MB, I want 12MB :) He asked me "so what is your solution?" I said if Comcast reduces my bill by $20 each month, I am happy with my speed. He said they can't do that. Duh!

Anyway, do you guys think am I wrong in my case or should I just go with what they say :) I mean I want faster speeds but it looks like I am going no where with them!

What is your suggestion? Unfortunately, I cannot change a provider as it is too much hassle at time being but any other suggestions are welcomed.

Btw, I am using Mac OS Snow Leopard with a Macbook and I have not messed with my computer since I left my old provider which was working like it was supposed to.

Thanks!

Edit: I have the Linksys WRT54g2 wireless router. I also tried the speeds tests directly connected to the RCA Thomson modem with same results. Also here are my modem's status.

Came from FIOS to Comcast and.....I'm glad I did!

I currently live in MD and the area has both FIOS and Comcast. I dumped Comcast for FIOS due to the speeds but the pricing was EXPENSIVE with fios and when I heard about the docsis upgrade in the area with comcast and right when my contract with verizon was done, i was off to comcast. and wow....the speeds are great. dont get me wrong. FIOS is amazing but im a broke college guy and 80 bucks for 25/15 vs 50 for 50/10 sounds like a deal. 50 bucks for 50 megs sounds awesome. and it is. i do wish though that the modem would be a little more superior. i have an ambit u10c035. ive heard its not a bad modem though. anyways..heres my speed results.
