[FL] Can't connect Linksys/DD-WRT to SciAm modem

I was connected to the internet successfully but tried to rearrange my network. Now my Cox-supplied Scientific Atlanta modem won't issue an ip address to the router. My network is dead in the water.

I was connected successfully with a Netgear WGR614 router. I tried to trade that for a Linksys WRK54Gv5 flashed with DD-WRT v24preSP2. Now, the modem won't issue an ip address to either, including after being powered off, disconnected for hours, and reset.

I'd really like to use the Linksys as the router and DHCP server, and the Netgear as a simple WAP and DHCP forwarder. Netgear FAQ show how to do that but I get no internet connection from the Linksys. I'd realy like that to be the internet connection because it supports Wake-on-LAN from external networks.

I reset both devices to defaults, then revised the LAN ip addresses so they're both on 192.168.2 and not seeking the same address. I can connect wirelessly to both. Unfortunately, that gets me nowhere.

What more can I do? A conversation I had with tech support was that basically any mac address will be accepted by the Cox network, but I find that to be not true.

If anyone can tell me what to tweak, I'd appreciate it.

[FL] Ft Walton Beach Problems

Can someone notify the gulfcoast rep (he's been absent) that the 507 mhz has been crapping out?

I don't know this but we had two dropped calls on thanksgiving when we called our family up in north caroliana, don't know if my net is on that but our phone service is through vonage.

It's very cold here and was told by the fourth tech it could be why.

[Off Topic] Cox mentioned in AZ skulduggery story

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2009-11-26/news/serving-up-stapley-why-s-the-don-stapley-prosecution-a-big-joke-because-the-accusers-are-far-shadier-than-the-accused/6[Maricopa County Supervisor] Stapley hit up entities such as the Arizona Homebuilders Association and Cox Communications that might someday need the friendly ear of a county supervisor. In some cases, MCSO [Maricopa County Sheriff's Office] detectives say, donors admitted that is exactly why they gave money to Stapley.

Cox is not accused of any wrong doing, but still it is very jarring to think of Cox having to pay up for political patronage.

The ruse of seeking donations was so that Stapley could run (unopposed) for an office at the National Association of Counties, an office not requiring campaign funds. Disbursement of the funds seemingly lacks a wholesome purpose.
More than $16,000 spent for electronics and furniture; thousands of dollars spent at local stores, from Nordstrom to an antique shop; funds spent for pet grooming, car washes, and groceries; a bill of $1,300 to Tony Martingilio, a hair-replacement specialist; and bills totaling about $400 for spa treatments.

Let's hope Cox has the judgment to steer clear of this kind of patronage. It is hard to think of our subscription money going to skulduggery like this.

Does anyone know if COX uses the Spamhaus DROP list?
http://www.spamhaus.org/drop/

If not, this is something I am looking into implementing myself.

Anyone else use this, is it worth the effort?

[CATV] Can I use my own cable box for Cox HDTV?

Greetings,

Cox is extremely unhelpful and actually deceptive when questioned about what is required to receive HDTV.

1 - Can I receive HDTV without a cable box or cablecard? Are there any TVs that do the same thing as the cable box?

2 - If not, can I use my own cable box. Examples please.

3 - Why is a cable box required. If I can receive over-the-air HD, why can't I receive it through a cable?

Thanks

COX DNS issue?

Just noticed a serious issue that makes my home networking totally useless.

Basically, the cox DNS server will return any unknown host name with a fixed IP address 72.215.225.9. You can open a CMD window and start ping some random host names and they always return the same ip address.

This basically destroys my home networking because none of my local PC names can be resolved correctly.

Anyone saw the same issue?

[AZ] HSI dropping with new SURFboard 6120

I have just moved 2 miles down the road (same Scottsdale zip code). During the move I upgraded my speed and thus installed a new 6120 DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

Since going live, I have had countless recycles of service and am trying to figure out the issue. The most recent tech visit indicated that they are going to replace the 130 ft. line from the stub to my home as it is 10 years old.

Here is the date from the modem and a slew of errors that no one seems to know what they mean.
--------------------------------------

Anyone have a clue what these errors mean and how they can be resolved?

[CA] Cable modem rebooting frequently

Hey everyone and happy thanksgiving!

It's been a while since I've posted and had issues with my internet, so I'm hoping I can get some help from one of the cox techs on here. Basically what's going on is I just recently moved and had my internet moved over to my new place and everything has been fine except my internet. The connection will drop and the modem will reset every 5-10 minutes for about an hour, or it can be fine for hours on end. I moved into a smaller condo that has only one main cable line, so it's currently split with one line going to the modem, and the other being split again so the tv's get cable in the other two rooms. Any help would be appreciated :)

The signals on the modem are good, so I'm not too sure what's up with this.

Downstream
Freq/Power: 561.000 MHz 5 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio: 38 dB

Upstream
Freq/Power:	26.112 MHz 49 dBmV

and here one hour's worth of logs.
