It is a shame other country upload speed = download speed

It is a big shame other country upload speed is the same as the download speed.

USA, the biggest and best country to most people and yet, look at our upload speed?

They are all cap because of what? MONEY and GREED!

No wonder I see how all these big upload binary on the newsgroup in Europe and other country all done in a few hours!

Now they want to charge more for static IP.

They block Port 25 because we are bad guys? But only us doing it and not other country? Thats not going to help anybody.

I dont think congresman/woman are tech enough to raise this issue.

AT&T Landline Change Voicemail Provider

I'm wondering if it is possible to change the voicemail provider for an AT&T landline? I know on cell phones you dial something similar to #0075#[number for voicemail provider]#

Is there a way to do this for AT&T voicemail? Note, I do not have AT&T's voicemail service enabled.

It Sucks To Be On IFITL

Nobody has said it in a while so I felt it my duty to keep the sentiment alive. I am on fiber with no alternative to AT&T. No Cable provider serves my neighborhood. You would think they would jump at the opportunity to grab some customers after AT&T dumped Americast... Apparently the prospect of competing for 800+ new customers isn't enough to tempt either Comcast or Charter. Essentially, I am a prisoner of 1.5mb speed until I move. AT&T doesn't give a rat's rear about us and the cable companies don't see enough green, I guess.

From the AT&T IFITL Penitentiary,

[Services] SMTP "Blocked For Abuse" problem

We have been using AT&T (Formally BellSouth) for many years for business connectivity (DSL, SMTP, DNS). Our company sends out approximately 2000 to 5000 e-mails daily. Periodically, AT&T flags us a spammers and puts a block on all SMTP service returning the error "451 Error - blocked for abuse. See http://my.att.net/tempblock for information". This seems to have become worse as for Thursday 10/28 where they seem to have put a 50 email limit on outbound batch e-mails. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, other than calling the help desk to get this removed temporally, what can be done to rectify the problem?

[Speed Problem] Slow DSL Down Rates at Night

I have been a very satisfied Bellsouth DSL customer for several years. However the last few months that has been changing. It started with a 5 day outage in the spring, that I got a constant run-around from customer support. Things have been mostly fine since then except for the last month.

I started noticing slow download times a few weeks ago. I started doing numerous speed tests on AT&T test page, speakeasy.com and speedtest.net. My 3mb connection was now averaging 1.2mb only. I called support, they did some tests, and could find nothing wrong. A tech was dispatched and of course when they arrived the next morning everything was fine and running at the full 3mb.

Things were fine for about a week, I then upgraded to the 6mb service last weekend. New speeds came through as expected and I was averaging 4.8-5.2 downloads. Last few days though the evening speeds have been dropping back to 1.2ish only. Support recommended I upgrade from my old Westell that I've had for a few years. Yesterday afternoon, my 2Wire Modem/Gateway arrived. Installed and setup with no problem and was getting a full 6mb download. Last night however, speeds were right back down to 1.2mb. Throughout all of this however my upload speeds have always been maxed out where they should be, so it is just the down pipe that seems to have the problem.

I suspect there is a capacity problem or line problem somewhere since it is fine at times and horrible in the evenings. Any recommendations as to how to bring this up with their support members?

[Availability] Newly built house.. Wanting DSL/Uverse

I recently built a house in Enterprise, MS (39330). After waiting 2months (after the move in) for ATT to extend the phone line 2800' to my property I tryed to get DSL and they say its not available. I have a feeling that it is "not available" bc they had a problem even getting my address into the system. Cust. Serv. kept saying that my address was "invalid". The lady had to do a manual override to put it in.

The fiberoptic line (7' white poles w/ orange tops) runs down my road but they say that Uverse is not available. I'm thinking again that I am "not available" due to my address being invalid. I must have highspeed internet for my job and i refuse to pay $300odd dollars for Hughsnet or Wildblue equipment. Does anyone know of anything I can do to get DSL or Uverse?

[Modem] Netopia 3347 dropping everyday @ about 9AM

Everyday my DSL drops sync (Internet light turns red) on my Netopia 3347 requiring a reboot. I don't believe this is a problem with the modem but a problem in the lines or the DSLAM. Any suggestions? This is immediately after a reboot. And I have 3 meg service...

[Speed Problem] Packet loss at the modem?

http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2591133

Here are the results of my line quality test. I have a 3mb connection which lets me download files at around 360KB/sec. But the past couple of days, I noticed pages were loading slower and the connection overall seemed choppy. Now I am lucky to see 1KB/sec at times. But its definitely stuck no higher than 16KB/sec.

Nothing has changed on my side. I re-did the TCP Optimizer RWIN and MTU settings. No change. I even tried a brand new modem from the box. Same thing. I even tried hooking to my laptop. Same. So it seems like something wrong at the ISP.

Also, I tried changing out cables. And I have a new line running from the telephone box to my garage. I took it out there and tried. Same thing.

Why is Static IP no longer "free" with Extreme 3 or 6?

I'm grandfathered in, but apparently if I move, or make any changes to my account I will have to pay $14.95 to keep my static IP.

I'm just wondering why this business decision was made. Do static IPs require extra overhead? Is it just a plain ol' money grab? Static IP addresses are so convenient. I've had the same one since 2004; I can configure remote firewalls to allow my address, always find my home server without having to use other services, and so on.

This was such a great perk for the Extreme DSL tiers, and now it's gone? AT&T fail. Why?

[Home Network] Connect On Command or Keep Alive for 2210 / BEFSR

I'm about to install a new Linksys BEFSR41 router behind my Netopia 2210-02-1006 modem, I need multiple internet sessions. I've read the FAQ's and understand the Keep Alive = 180 seconds recommendation. What issues (if any) does using the Connect On Demand feature cause? Sometimes I prefer to use my system(s) without an active internet connection. If I understand the BEFSR41 manual correctly I could to this if Connect On Demand is utilized. TIA for any information and / or opinions.
