| Well back home.
Here in Sunbury - they also have Fox News HD.
Couple problems. Disney HD and Planet Green HD - major pixellation and breakup.
Checked the diagnostics - they are at 843MHz - SNR is showing Poor at 26.9 -
Looks like I'll have to send an email to SECV to have them come out and check things either at the amp up the road, or within the house.
It could be expected at that high of a frequency, but i'll send an email to explain the situation (better than my mom could) -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

1 edit | reply to cypherstream Well, SECV in Birdsboro is at least 860 MHz. My Dad got a 32" LCD TV for the kids room, and it has a simulcast of the Ch 2 bulletin board on Analog Ch 135. They must have it in analog at the bleeding edge for amplifier alignment with the C-Cor gear they've been swapping for the Magnavox 750 gear.
Didn't notice if they got Fox News HD, but my guess is they did. I did notice however that it appears there's at least 8 large dishes at SECV in Birdsboro, and the letters on them look old fashioned, like a TH or GH or TC or something (two letters). The fiber feed that comes out onto the initial poles at the place is orange. |

Interesting. I thought cable operators couldn't drop a channel from now until march? »www.multichannel.com/article/CA6···nid=4262
SECV though, little guy who packs a punch!
They need to get HD-VOD though. Any sign of that? What about their DOCSIS 3.0 plans? I still see them running fiber in Amity township / Douglassville area by the Wawa on 422 and 662. Also there are some developments down there that have a lot of ground dug up for new lines. Maybe when they are done upgrading that system they will do more stuff.
Also saw a Cable Services LLC guy in a C-COR 860 MHz node the other day on 422 in Exeter township. |

1 edit | We have DOCSIS3 in the Sparta NJ Service Electric system (I'm in Wantage). It's not cheap though. 30MBps for $79.99/month. For the install they also have to do a truck roll ($25) and the modem goes to a separate drop. They said no splitters, although I tried it thru a splitter and it works. My wiring is underground so the cable guy ran a separate drop to the little box on the side of my house.
The modem is a channel bonded SA DPC2505 (3 channels downstream).
I get around 27-29MBps down and 1.7-1.9MBps up.
The cap is now 100GB each way, which still sucks, but better than 40MBps. $1/gig if you go over.
I do need the speed for work, and my internet is paid for.
So yeah, it's available, but pricey. |

I just installed a Netgear router for them so the little boys could get online with their Wii and Nintendo DS'es. As a bonus now my laptop works here Noticed their really nice HD lineup. Still old guide version. Boy those I-Guide ovals are really huge. VOD is still lacking HD-VOD and a barker video. Firmware 16.42 on a DCT-6200.
Merry Christmas! |

3 edits | I was at the in laws so I was in Blue Ridge territory. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to see the latest additions on SECV. I take it they are really good. They were just lashing more cable together today on Rt. 422 right in front of the new Super Wal-Mart construction site in Exeter PA. The lasher was spinning and traveling down the strand. Pretty neat. They had rollers further down the line that kept the slack up close to the main strand while they were feeing it through some hook like devices.
They have been doing a lot of work the past two years in their service area down here. That's something I haven't seen Comcast do.

Rollers on hooks looked like this:

A lot of different types at this site: »www.gmptools.com/nf/index_cableblocks.htm
Looks like they were using the stationary reel method of overlashing the new cable, as described in this PDF: »www.gmptools.com/nf/pdf/stationrm.pdf |

| Has any one received digital phone service from SECV in Birdsboro? I have been calling them about it for last 18 months. It is two months away every month
It sucks to have no Verizon in town (at least my part of town). |

I noticed today that Service Electric has a little hub building or something on Lake Road in Fleetwood. There's a Tower there. It's a pretty modern building, a few trucks there. I didn't walk around, but I wish I would of checked it out closer. There was a regular car there so I didn't want to snoop around if someone was working inside.
Wonder what they do in that building. Anyone have any ideas?

Well there was some trouble with HSI at my Dads house the past few days. Modem couldn't lock on an upstream channel. When it was locked, the upstream was at +55dBmv, which should work (I've seen worse work before). I swapped cables on the 3-way balanced splitter (Antronix -5.5db) and the upstream came down to +53dBmv, so an improvement, and it does seem stable. Downstream remain unchanged at -5 dBmV and SNR at 38 dB.
It's a Motorola SB5100 modem, but oddly it doesn't tell you the modulation schemes or symbol rates. This just recently started happening, so I wonder if they went with a more robust upstream modulation, which took a borderline signal and caused it to fail... They used to run QPSK a few years ago when I lived there (The modems used to actually say that), but now the modems don't report it, but I'd imagine it's 16QAM or better.
Speed tests after swapping the cables resulted in about 9.8mbps down and 0.97mbps up.
Interestingly, their SB5100 modem is always blinking the activity light. I used to have an SB5100 with Comcast before I got triple play, and that activity light only blinked when you were doing something online. |

| Well even at +53 dBmv the modem was kicking offline. Not sure if it was because of temp swings or what.
SECV came within a half hour of my Dad's service call, yeah a half hour... they put the Service in Service Electric!
They put an amp on the one line and that brought the modem upstream to about 48 dBmv and stable. I was really surprised they used an amp, I thought that was a band aid solution, but that's what they did after checking all the fittings and lines. |
