Is MDN going to be deployed on May 31st?

I'm not sure about the date, but we've been testing it and it's very promising. I'm sure you guys would like it.

I've had MDN for over a year and it's been bad but has gotten better. Just don't run it on an older Pioneer or SA boxes since they tend to have problems with it. Especially if it's several years old.

That's probably due to the low memory set tops but we've cleared out the unnecessary stuff on the bfs

It sounds like you may have a low memory set top box. If they are in the new york city region, send me their MAC address and I'll poll some information from it.

It will work but it might be a bit sluggish. An HD box will work on a SDTV and it runs a bit better since it has a better CPU and more RAM. TWC hasn't ordered SD boxes in a very long time since it's cheaper just to get HD boxes. I now have a SA 3250HD that used to be our main box. I replaced the main box with the 8300HDC. I also have a 4250HD. Pioneer has no longer made cable boxes for quite a while now so you might just want to convince them to swap it if it has response issues.

I've been having issues with the new firmware where upon changing channels, the title and the channel icon change, but the number doesn't. Also when using the guide , if I hit up or down, occasionally it will just take off in either direction and not stop scrolling.

Oh and changing channels is still horribly slow.
I have this same problem exactly.
when I am scrolling down in the guide, the info will hang on a previous channel. so annoying.

I still think people should swap their low memory STB for a new ODN one once it comes out. If it does make a difference then it might be ok. I still remember using MDN when I got my Pioneer BD-V1100. It looked like DOS. Changing the channel was a pain since it would magically jump to a much higher channel then what you wanted. It didn't help that it was slower than molasses. It ran great with Passport though. I hope NYC gets a successful MDN rollout.

TWC internet outages in Queens?

Are there any known issues with Internet service in Queens (zip code 11374)? Internet has been mostly down since 10pm EST last night (May 8th)... we're going on 20hrs of near-outages.

Figures... an hour or two after I posted, Internet service was restored. Nm!

Re: Issues with Time Warner Cable service in New York

Here is a list of recommended box list for MDN. I made this list so that the consumer can get an optimum MDN experience. Old boxes from 1999-2001 era boxes tend to have problems running MDN. If you have one of the boxes to avoid then you should swap it for a new ODN box. The HD boxes tend to run MDN a bit better since they have better hardware like more CPU and more RAM.

Scientific Atlanta 3250
Scientific Atlanta 3250HD
Scientific Atlanta 8300
Scientific Atlanta 8300HD
Pace DC-510
Pace DC-550

Boxes to avoid with MDN

Scientific Atlanta 8000
Scientific Atlanta 8300HD
Any Pioneer box regardless of HD or SD
Scientific Atlanta 1000-2000 series
Scientific Atlanta 2200 (Maybe good, maybe bad)

Hey Visuelz,

Sorry if this has been resolved elsewhere but is there any easy fix to the audio dropout issue on the HD channels (esp FOX)? The sound "skips" every few minutes and it's near impossible to listen to. Have tried to switch to a newer 3090 or 3270 box (currently have the SA 8300HDs in Southern Manhattan) but dealing with TWC customer service (from phone reps to field techs) has been absolutely maddening. Appreciate any insight you may have.

Thanks

The 3090 is already being deployed right now at a rate of 1 to 2 a day.

The 8300HD shouldn't be in the avoid section. That was a typo. The SA 3100 and 3100HD are boxes you shouldn't run MDN on.

Anything I could tell someone at TWC to check to confirm that? I talked to 3 different people (including the tech that came out) and got 4 different answers (not kidding) from
"Sure, it's available, I'll make a note from the tech" to
"No, that's only available in Brooklyn and Queens. I just installed one in Queens yesterday" to
"Yes, we just got those in April but they're still being tested" to
"Oh sorry, it's actually only available customers in Staten Island." Those last two were from a "supervisor" who couldn't tell me what the difference between ODN and MDN was. Or what either stood for. Or what model number boxes they even offered (she eventually asked around for the last two).

I'd pretty much resigned myself to for a tech to come out every week or so to replace the box until I actually get it. The only thing worse than dealing with lousy phone reps is spending 3 hours on a Saturday at 23rd St only to find out that by "new" box, they actually meant one that came out in 2006.

The 3090 unfortunately has it's own set of issues. Mostly with the version of ODN that NYC is using which is an older version. The latest version of ODN performs better on the 3090. ODN is the OCAP program guide that runs on the 3090 and the HDC boxes. MDN is just like ODN except it's for boxes like your 8300HD. They are testing it and it might come out soon but that could be delayed. I think TWC NYC is ordering the 3090 with the 320 GB HDD option but they could be ordering the 160 GB model.

i understand wanting to have the latest and greatest but thats a lot of trouble to go thru just for a box. weather in nyc is nice. go enjoy rather than spend on phone or at 23 street.
