| Motorola SB5120 old firmware
I just bought a new to me modem off of Craigslist and I am wondering how I be can be updated. When I was giving the technician my Mac address she had no idea what flashing the firmware was all about. Also she mention that there was a yellow box that came up that meant she could communicate fully with the modem. From what I can tell my firmware is at least four years old and needs updating.
My question is Will it be automatically updated or do I have to do something special?
my current levels are:to the
Downstream Value Frequency 117000000 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio 38 dB QAM 256 Network Access Control Object ON Power Level -1 dBmV
Upstream Value Channel ID 4 Frequency 35000000 Hz Ranging Service ID XXXX Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s Power Level 46 dBmV
Software Version: SB5120-2.14.0.7-SCM00-NOSH Hardware Version: 4 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4
thanks, John from College Station, Texas |

| Suddenlink tech support agents cannot update the firmware on a data modem, nor will it be "automatically updated".
Your signal levels look good.
Side note: I have the same modem and the same software version, and there are no problems with it, so this probably isn't something you'd even need to worry about. |

That is, that modem that had just been added to your account was offline. Have you been able to get online yet? If so, then don't worry about that "yellow box" she saw. |

said by SuddenlinkTX :"I have the same modem and the same software version, and there are no problems with it" The net is up and working fine "using it now" I was just hopping that an update to the newest firmware would help with my XboxLive connection a bit fix a bug or to and help with Lag.
also does it matter that my SB5120's "Establish Time Of Day - Failed"? |

Had mine for a few years works good but the net craps out late (2-3am ish) at night quite often. I don't game so I don't about the lag here.
here are my specs: Software Version: SB5120-2.14.0.7-SCM00-NOSH Hardware Version: 4 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4
Downstream Value Frequency 111000000 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio 38 dB QAM 256 Network Access Control Object ON Power Level -4 dBmV
Upstream Value Channel ID 1 Frequency 33000000 Hz Ranging Service ID Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s Power Level 57 dBmV
and my "Establish Time Of Day" is "Done" it did not fail.
Are my levels good and what are good levels for a sb5120 and sb5101? |

Your upstream power is a bit high. Are you using a cable splitter? |

@suddenlink.net | yes: wall to splitter then to tv and modem |

@suddenlink.net
| let me expand on that.
I live in a residential neighborhood "house not Apt" I have seen in side the box out side (looked over service guys shoulder) in box 1 splitter (1-in 2-outs). I only have 2 cable pugs for 2 Tvs. 1 Tv in the back bed room and 1 Tv in the living room with the SB5120 modem the splitter in there is (1-in 2-outs).
There that is my whole cable system. My 4bedroom 3bath 1story house is lacking in cable plugs. |

Anyway i still would like to know why my SB5120's "Establish Time Of Day - Failed" is the important? |
