But don't you find it odd that someone you do not know, just called you out of the blue and told you that you allegedly had a problem with your computer?
If you know that they did exactly what they were suppose to do, why didn't you do it yourself since you would have to have the knowledge? See the point?

Several posters report that they claimed to be a Microsoft partner, however they do not state that on their website.
It is difficult to find any mainstream media articles about them, since most of the articles are their own press releases.

Thats the site they mentioned. But they have registration charges. Their services seem to be fine apart from the heavily Indian accent. Atleast in my case, the antivirus issue WAS resolved. |

Received call from indian sounding guy.Something wrong with my computer,slow to start up.As it was thought he knew what he was doing,so paid a quarterly payment.Had call today 21 08 2008 again same thing ,slow running so log on to www.supportonclick.co.uk,eventually going to subscription page and then to pay an annual payment of £43-00p.Told him i paid payment in June he said now annaul payment due.didnt feel safe so told him i would contact them later.Had about 4 calls after that from different guys one after the other.Iasked for phone number.A bit hesitant but gave me this number 1274900834.I wont phone it.I think ive been had.

FYI - Received a call today on my home phone (landline) at 7:20pm local time here in Adelaide South Australia. Caller (Indian accent, no name) and script sounding much the same as those desribed previously - he said he was ringing from "Support On Click" and claiming my "local ISP" had provided them with a report that my PC was "running slowly" and that it was a "computer technical issue". I asked where he had got my phone number and details from - he repeatedly said my number (and the report about my PC running slow) was from "my local ISP" though he never named that ISP. I think this is very improbable as my ISP has a very good name and their website says nothing about this purported service provider. The caller kept returning to the same "scripted" phrases during the call but also became rather garbled as he went on to say that the problems they could help me with "might nver happen"! A Google search indicates a website exists for this company (along with other search results from rather improbably looking "news sites") but I would be very cautious.

You are not even sure of who you allowed access to your computer? Bad move.
Here's the best possible advice in your situation.
Bring your computer into a local computer repair shop & have it examined for viruses, trojans, backdoors, rootkits etc...
Post an image of your receipt in this thread for the amount the local computer repair shop charged to remove the offending files (remove any of your personally identifiable info first) as a warning to anyone else that might fall victim to this scam.
It's victims such as yourself that this forum is out to protect & educate.

Somehow, I'm not surprised in the least to see this particular registrar affiliated with supportonclick. They're notorious for other scareware scams, especially those hosted from Russia or the Ukraine, and often show up on Sandi Hardmeier's Spyware Sucks blog.

Anyone try to talk to them using the Live Chat and ask how do they know a particular PC has a specific problem and is associated with a particular phone number ?
I remember reading about their scam years ago...I am surprised...well maybe not..that they have a McAfee link on their site.

| Was out of town this week end. Sorry for the late reply. Honestly, they had called me once. Was in a meeting and hung up on them. They send an email and i really found it weird that they are getting my numbers and IDs. I called up the number to know.
A girl named Natalie explained that it is PC support company. I checked their site and asked how do i know they are not a scam. She said they can provide trial services before i sign up with them.
The rest is what I posted. My point is till now I have not faced any damage. Thats why I am not not calling it a scam. But yes, the heavy Indian accent is true. they are located in Calcutta. |

YOU came here asking if this was as scam BUT had decided already that it is not. This is what doesn't make sense to anyone here.
This IS a scam. It is proven. For some reason, when you are given the advice that there is more going on, you vehemently defend the scammers. Why? None of your story makes sense.
You say they didn't do anything to the computer that was bad, but how do you know? You clearly aren't smart enough to know or you would have cleared it out yourself.
That's why we are waiting for answers to the real questions that have been asked.
Have you ever called your ISP to see if they really contacted someone else in a foreign country - but not the US even there are companies here like McAfee and Norton - to call you out of nowhere? |

I received a call from a fast talking guy that sounded like he might have been Indian, I guess he could have been Nigerian. He went through the same spiel about having received notification that my computer was running slow and that this was happening so much in my area (and crashes were resulting) that they were being pro-active and contacting customers.
I was immediately suspicious and asked who he was and how he could be reached. He gave his name as Leo Cruz and gave me a 1-800 number to call him back and said if it was busy I could call the 347-289-3770 number and reach him.
He also provided a website for me to verify who he is. I didn't go there because that wouldn't prove anything to me. Anyone can create a website.
The only thing that made me think that there could actually be some truth to this story is that this morning while attempting to open Internet Explorer I was unsuccessful and a screen opened that said something about a doubleclick issue. I did a quick search and it seems like there is something related to Java which utilizes this. I installed Java just a few days ago while installing a new Linksys router.
Anyway, I didn't give him any info. |
