| reply to dirtyjeffer I will start us off. I watched the first pre-season game of this upcoming season and was quite impressed. Now, I realize it is pre-season, so don't read too much into this, but I think there were definitely some very good things. Tonight's game was against the Boston Bruins, and in typical pre-season fashion, both teams were lean on "top tier" talent as many of these games are often well stacked with prospects and players trying to earn a spot on the team. For those who didn't see the game, the Bruins won 3-2, but it was still a good game.
In terms of in goal, Toskala stopped 12/13 shots and looked good. He seemed to see the puck fairly well, and looked solid. McDonald came in to play around half way through the game and wasn't quite as solid, but sometimes there was some weak play in front of him. No sense on judging anything during the preseason for him.
The defensive core tonight featured my first looks at Beauchemin and he looked just as solid as people have been saying he is. Exelby also looked decent, not in terms of his play, but his toughness. White and Frogren were also there, and played reasonably well too, but we already know who they are. We also got to see Oreskovic again (we saw a little of him last year), where he got into a couple of scraps and played a simple physical style game as well. Jeff Finger rounded out the defense core, and he also played a solid defensive game.
The forwards were probably more of a Marlies line-up than a Leafs line-up (then again, maybe not), but some of their young talent looked really good. I though Kadri looked pretty good, had a few good scoring chances, drew a penalty and got an assist, although he seemed to stay out a little long a couple of times (not sure if his line got stuck out there, or the coach was pushing them to stay out a little longer a few times). Tlusty was OK, but he really needs to shine. Bozak was awesome and scored a nice shorthanded goal. Stalberg was awesome. I also like how Burke mentioned that Stalberg was a late 6th round pick by JFJ and said it was a very good pick. He has wicked speed, solid skill and great hockey sense, and it is only going to get better as time progresses (I believe he comes from the same city as Daniel Afredsson). Hanson wasn't too bad, but didn't really stand out that much. Rosehill also played, well, hit and fought (one tough SOB). Orr was out there hitting as well (and I think may have got into a fight too), and Deveaux got into a couple of scraps as well (I believe there were 5 fights tonight). Mitchell looked fairly good out there, forcing the play. Primeau was decent as well. Allison wasn't too bad, but I really don't think he "fits" with this club. He can't keep up with the young guns the Leafs have, and probably shouldn't be taking one of their spots (sorry Jason).
Don't forget to tune in tomorrow night when the Leafs take on the Flyers on LEAFSTV (not sure about HD). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

For a guy trying to make the team, you would figure he would come to camp in shape |

| it is still too early for me to make any predictions, not because i doubt the skill of the fast young team, but we haven't really played a true NHL line-up yet. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to dirtyjeffer The young Leafs looked quite good last night.
Bozak & Stalberg especially. I've been telling people for a while now that I think Stalberg will make the club this year. He is unbelievably fast.
Allison had a bad game. He wasn't moving his feet and made a lot of turnovers. He started the game decently, he was moving with the play, keeping the pace, but as the game went on, he really really slowed down.
Based on last night's game alone, he's not even close to making the team. His chances before last night started at slim and went down.
Lots to be positive about. The team finally has some young talent knocking on the door looking for a spot on the full club. |

| 4-0 Final. What a very good game, the youngsters are scoring with Kadri and Hanson getting their first goals. Physical game, 4 or 5 scraps, Leafs were not taking any shit. Solid goaltending too.
Lookin' good so far! -- GO LEAFS GO! |
