| reply to dirtyjeffer while it is still early, and we haven't really faced a full NHL squad, the young Leafs do look good...Blacker on defense tonight looked great...you Windsor posters probably knew he would be since you would have seen him play for the Spitfires...i'm not sure where he was drafted, but he looked solid back there...Grabovski needs to keep his head up if he wants to live another year...he is quit, wiggly with the puck and tenacious out there, but other players know he sometimes puts his down a bit when zipping through the neutral zone and some players will take advantage of that...come on Grabs, keep your head up, I want to see you play a full season...Stemniak also looked good tonight and he was paired with Hagman and Kadri and they seemed to play very well together...all three of them of fast, quick with the puck and smart players...that was a good line...Schenn looked good, as did Komisarek and Kaberle (perhaps the "Special K" line on defense?)...even Andy Rogers played well, although he is a long shot to make the team this year (of course, he could be a call up if someone gets injured, aka Mike Van Ryan )...speaking of which, we haven't seen him yet (perhaps in the games coming)...Van Ryan apparently put on 12 pounds of muscle as the Leafs trainers had almost every one going through a solid training program during the long off season...Wilson said his guys worked well and have really increased their strength, which helps them with speed...sharing the shutout tonight were McDonald with another solid performance and a great show put on by Reimer (?) (not sure where he is from, but he looked very good)...perhaps another glimpse into the future.
Next stop, tomorrow night in Pittsburgh, then Saturday back at the ACC with the Flyers (that is going to be a little nasty)...both games on LeafsTV, but sadly, not in HD (at least, not that I could see). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to dirtyjeffer also, another game with Jay Rosehill...i like this guy...he is fairly quick on his feet, big and strong, has moderate playing ability and is a pretty good fighter...through him on a line with Orr for some fun stuff...he played with Kadri for about a third of the game and didn't do all that bad...he was later put on the line with Hanson and Ondrus and got an assist on Hanson's goal (he almost got the wrap around that turned into Hanson's scoring chance)...i know he probably won't make the team, but again, he could easily be inserted if someone gets hurt...he'd be on my short list, not only for his toughness, but because he can actually play the game too (no, he isn't a Crosby out there, but you know what i mean). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

Love the Leafs.. wake me when the most storied franchise in hockey has a single star on it.. This is pathetic. It is like an expansion team. They should have 4 or 5 of the top superstars in the league (in their prime) at all times. We should not have to be "optimistic" about some rookies. This is the mother F'n Maple Leafs!
You don't see the New York Yankees content year after year with "We have a 22 year old shortstop that can run like the wind". They are the most storied team in baseball because they make it that way. They bring in the best players and refuse to lose. The Leafs are the Yanks of Hockey in terms of prestige and money, yet they are content to be a joke. Nah.. skipped last season, and will not be impressed by a few nobody's. |

The Leafs are the Yanks of Hockey in terms of prestige and money, yet they are content to be a joke. Nah.. skipped last season, and will not be impressed by a few nobody's. How exactly do you propose any team in the NHL have 4 or 5 NHL superstars in their prime at the same time? It cannot be done.
Are you seriously trying to say the Leafs should be the Yankees in order to win?
That's exactly what they were pre-salary cap.
And that's the style of club operation that has been chastized non stop for the past 5 years as the reason for their failure. The Leafs for decades bought veteran stars by trading away youth and draft picks in attempts to win. That's what the Yankees do.
You absolutely cannot hold the the Leafs up to the standard of the Yankees. They aren't saddled with a salary cap. And if they were, they would follow the exact same path the Leafs have for the last 5 years. Struggling to bring the team salary down below the cap in order to compete again through development.
The Yankees were bad, very bad, for a decade from 1986 until 1996. The Leafs have been bad for 4 years (yet still almost made the playoffs twice).
The Leafs were powerhouses through the early 90's, Late 90's and early 2000's.
So easily people forget that.
And finally, in case you haven't noticed, the Leafs are finally on the right track. You can't turn things around overnight. |

| reply to dirtyjeffer what is interesting is how how Kadri is doing quite well so far but i haven't heard anything about Tavares...i said during the last few months/playoffs with the Knights that Kadri was more impressive than Tavares was. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

Kadri plays in Toronto. Tavares plays for the team no one cares about to be mis-handled until his development is completely ruined.
And on the Kadri note, yes he's playing well, but from what I've seen, he's not ready for the NHL yet. Another year in junior will do wonders for him. |

And on the Kadri note, yes he's playing well, but from what I've seen, he's not ready for the NHL yet. Another year in junior will do wonders for him. i disagree...i am thinking Tavares will play in the NHL this year, as well Hedman (Tbay)...while i think Kadri could also play at this level, i don't think they will keep him up, for the reason that they just have too many players...the reality is (and Wilson admitted last night), Kadri is a first or second line center...if he stays, someone has to go...and i doubt he will come back to the Knights...if he is sent down, it will be to the Marlies...Kadri can already skate circles around other "kids", he needs to play against men to develop further...that said, i hope he is kept...it is interesting to see the difference in the games from Boston to Philly...the Leafs dominated the majority of last nights game, and they were without Allison and Primeau, two older guys...the Leafs did ice a better team, with Komisarek and Kaberle playing, along with Stempniak and Ponikarovsky, but that added speed helps them be more deadly offensively, and it also draws penalties, and there were numerous times where the opposing team is forced to clutch, grab and hook the speedy young players. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

It's either the NHL or junior.
Playing in the AHL starts his free agency clock. As long as he's junior eligible, he will be going to London. It would be a complete waste to burn a year of free agency in the AHL. Either he's on the Leafs or the Knights.
I think a year playing against younger, inferior players will give him tonnes of confidence and lots of room to try things out that he won't have the chance to do in the NHL. Not to mention a headline spot on the world stage at the world juniors.
Burke is notorious for letting players develop playing in junior and the AHL. I think Kadri *could* play in the NHL this year, but it would slow his development to do so.
I think Kadri has the potential to be a dominant player in the bigs, but he needs to be physical ready to do so. I don't think he's quite there yet. |

| oh, i didn't realize the AHL would use up a year of his eligibility...you are probably right then...i don't think he will play with the Leafs this season, not because i don't think he can (he has fit in just fine so far), but because i don't think there is room right now...the crappy thing is, i don't think he will develop much further in the OHL...it would be like sending Tavares back the Knights to play there as well (assuming he is eligible to do so, which i believe he is)...i think they need to play with men to progress to the next stage, but i doubt Kadri will (even though he is at least as good as Tavares). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| You're rating Kadri way too high. He is not at Tavares skill level. He may develop in time, but if he had the skill of Tavares I think all the thousands of scouts out there would of noticed.
I'm not a big fan of Kadri, never have been in his Jr. days, but he does have potential. Playing in the OHL another year will help him develop. He should learn that he doesn't have to be on for a shift 4 minutes at a time. |

| i noticed he was out there for a while, but the coach seemed to want it...there were a couple of times when there was stoppages in play, but the coach didn't change the lines...not sure why...and i watched Kadri and Tavares play quite a bit during the latter half of last season in the NHL...Tavares is a talented player, don't get me wrong, but Kadri is quicker and is very shifty...Tavares has a great shot, but that's about it...he isn't strong along the boards, he isn't shifty when skating or trying to create space and he doesn't seem to "fight" for the puck like Kadri does/has...it is why i even said many months ago that when they rated Kadri at something like 12th, it was WAY too low...this kid, if he continues his growth, will be a top forward in the game. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |
