| reply to dirtyjeffer I don't know if my perspective of Kessel from being at the game today and seeing the whole ice was different from people that watched the game on TV but I thought Kessel was a hog all game, I mean I know he really wanted to score badly but there were a handful of times where he shood have passed instead of shooting, which could have lead to a goal.
Also he wasn't paying attention when he got hit because he was probably listening to everyone cheering but I can't blame him for that, after he seemed nervous but in the 2nd and third he seemed to have woken up a little. |

1 edit | Yeah, it'll take him time. He hasn't really had a feel of the "game puck" in like six months. And like you said, he did have something to prove, and still does.... so he might be a bit of a hog for a while.
But that's almost always the case with all pure goal scorers. When everyone expects them to pass, the shoot... He did that a bunch of times tonight, where he'd take shots from a spot that no Leaf would even dream of shooting from.
Anyway, despite all the negativity surrounding this team, there are definitely a few bright spots. First and foremost would have to be the play of 'Gus'... but next would be the play of Kaberle. He looks so very comfortable, free and not fearful of when the next hit will come. |

| reply to dirtyjeffer Kab's being good is death for the Leafs. It just makes it more and more likely that he has to be moved this year before the deadline if they are going to rebuild at all. Which, lets face it needs to be done for the next few years. Kab's is your only asset in that. |

| they could always keep Kabs and resign him to a 3-5 year contract...that is, unless the Rangers come along with a 15 year contract offer. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| Kabby still has a no trade. There's only a short window in the summer where he can be dealt.
Burke said he would not ask him to waive his no trade during the season. -- 1-for-October. (1-7-4) And now, back to your regularly scheduled losing. |

the Leafs have plenty of assets...Beuchemin is signed for several years, as is Komisarek...White is still young and will be around for a while...Exelby, Finger and Van Ryn are also going to be there for a few more years...plus whoever they have in the Marlies that can brought up...then, up front, you have Bozak, Stralberg, Tlusty, Hanson and Kadri, all who will most likely play over the next few years. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to dirtyjeffer Exelby is a horrible player, Van Ryn may or may not be done as a player. Finger and Komisarke are unmovable because of there respective contracts. Beuchemin may have some value but he may not.
The fact that Bozak, Stralberg, Tlusty, Hanson can't stick with the Leafs in what is clearly a write off season should be worrying, noting else. Tlusty damn close to busting. Kadri is young so he might be ok.
The Leafs are not the Flyers when they sucked it up. They lack the building blocks the Flyers had, plus the cap space for the next season. |

| reply to pat_lc2000 said by pat_lc2000 : Exelby is a horrible player,
Exelby isn't horrible...he needs time to mesh with his team mates...he was brought over for his tough play in the zone...he isn't an all star defenseman, but that isn't why they brought him...he hasn't been fantastic, but give him a few more games...they have ALL been playing much better as they get used to one another...he was decent in Atlanta.
quote: Van Ryn may or may not be done as a player.
can't disagree with that one...great player, too injury prone...not sure what his problem is.
quote: Finger and Komisarke are unmovable because of there respective contracts.
Finger hasn't been too bad, and Komisarek has been getting much better...it wouldn't surprise me to see Komisarek wear the C next year (if they still haven't chosen a captain this year).
quote: Beuchemin may have some value but he may not.
he will get better...he is a really good defenseman...i think the problem is the Leafs were playing so poorly, that too many people where trying to do too many things...as i said, they haven't lost a game in regulation in 5...they are improving...you don't flip a switch, it takes time.
quote: The fact that Bozak, Stralberg, Tlusty, Hanson can't stick with the Leafs in what is clearly a write off season should be worrying, noting else. Tlusty damn close to busting. Kadri is young so he might be ok.
Tlusty is possibly a late bloomer, he is still a "kid"...Stralberg, Bozak and to a lesser degree, Hanson all played well...the problem is, you can't keep them here, and sit a player being paid $4 million/year...give them time to develop...very few players can pop out of junior or college hockey and run with the Pro's.
quote: The Leafs are not the Flyers when they sucked it up. They lack the building blocks the Flyers had, plus the cap space for the next season.
the Leafs have plenty of building blocks, many of which were picked up this year...i already mentioned Bozak, Gustavsson, Kadri and Hanson. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

I have to disagree on that one. Beauchemin has always been paired with a top-level defensive partner (Pronger, Neidermayer) which made him look better than he is. He's not horrible, but I'd say he's not more than mediocre, perhaps average, unless you have someone really, really good pair him with. -- The thoughts expressed in the above post are those of the poster, and can only be attributed to his state of mind at the time of posting.
