said by Kardinal :I have to disagree on that one. Beauchemin has always been paired with a top-level defensive partner (Pronger, Neidermayer) which made him look better than he is. He's not horrible, but I'd say he's not more than mediocre, perhaps average, unless you have someone really, really good pair him with. oh, don't get me wrong...i'm not saying he is a Neidermayer or Lidstrom...i'm just saying he is a decent player...he just needs some time to settle into his new surroundings...keep in mind, he came from Anaheim, where people don't care about hockey and got plopped right into Hockey Central (no disrespect to other hot hockey cities). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

Finger hasn't been that bad, but over paid...as is Komisarek.
Tlusty is more then like a bust because if he can't make the Leafs now he never will. He can't be a role player and if he's not good enough to play top 6 minutes on the Leafs, he will never be good enough anywhere.
Other teams (New Jersey, Phili and Montreal) will put high priced players in the minors if they are useless...why can't Toronto? |

| Toronto has (remember Mark Bell)...keep in mind, you can't do that to a lot of players (especially high priced ones) as you aren't allowed to because of their contract. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to dirtyjeffer Hey guys, on the bright side, Carolina has broken the longest losing streak for the season as they have lost 9 in a row now .
If the leafs don't get a solid 4 or 5 game winning streak going ... and I mean SOON, they'll really be too far behind to catch up. At this point, they're really not far away from a playoff spot, but they gotta go on a winning streak or it's hopeless .
I really don't want to see this team finish last place this season and have Boston get the 1st draft pick ! -- Life is a game of blackjack. You keep playing until you bust. |

As for Tlusty being a "bust", you forgot how patient the Leafs were with Antropov. He's not doing too bad now, 12pts in 11 games. |

At this point, they're really not far away from a playoff spot, but they gotta go on a winning streak or it's hopeless . I think it's a tad too late already. Last year by this time they were 6-6-3, that's 15 points, and missed the playoffs by 12 points.
We are now 1-7-5, 7 points. What does this mean, realistically? They would have to go like 40-23-6 to finish at 41-30-11 , to have 93 points and have a realistic chance at 8th spot.
Do you think this team can reel off 40 wins before the end of the season?
I really don't want to see this team finish last place this season and have Boston get the 1st draft pick ! Perhaps not last place, but I think it's fair to say that Boston will have a draft lottery top-5 pick. Sad, but that's reality. -- 1-for-October. Yes, they have 7 points, but 8th place only has 14.
Not even 2 weeks ago, everyone had already buried the Leafs and Islanders as lottery pick winners. NYI has spun off a winning streak and currently sit 7th in the conference.
85% of the season to go and you guys are have already relegated them to a lottery pick. It's foolish.
They have a lot of work to do. However, since the game in Vancouver, Toronto could have easily won all of them, and deserve more than a 1-0-5 record based on the way they have played.
They are not playing a 30th placed team, and Kessel will make everyone around him better since he will draw the tightest checkers to play against. |

Every team has injuries. Every team has losing streaks. Every team goes through different challenges throughout the season.
This season a big challenge for the Toronto Maple Leafs started right off the bat--which sucks--but it's no different from an 8 game winless streak throughout the season--something that quite a few NHL teams will go through during this season.
The trick now is to avoid another long losing streak and keep the points rolling in...which should be easier with Kessel in the lineup.
[Edit] If this current winless streak is the biggest challenge The Leafs face this year I'd count them as lucky. -- Some people think I'm an idiot. I disagree, but idiocy is subjective--so they may well be right. With this in mind, take everything I post with a grain of salt, eh? |
