We do lease our lines out to other DSL companies. ATT and Verizon don't want to provide service in rural areas though.

It isn't cost effective to colo in rural areas. CLECs and DLECs cherry pick what markets they want. They want the big money, gravy, guaranteed profit markets. CTel has very few big money market areas. I live in a smallish medium town of maybe 75,000 residents with a higher than average per capita income . Even here there are no CLECs.

why are their rates so high priced compared to other dsl providers. These people are higher priced than cox and the speed are not as fast as cox.

So go with Cox. Nobody's got a gun to your head forcing you to use CT's services.
The cable company here offers service 2X faster than CT and almost 1/2 as cheap. The thing is, I know that Charter cannot live up to their advertised speeds / pricing in this area and have poor technical, field, and customer service. When I did have Charter, their internet and phone service was down quite often. That's not an option for me. So, I'm willing to pay a premium for CT service.

I like dsl better than cable I was trying to find some info to why there is no other dsl providers here that could offer service cheaper that century tel. Dsl speeds are more consistent than cable but I am not willing to pay more for money for the same speeds dsl is usually cheaper than cable internet.

Due to copper line conditions they can only offer me a 3.5 meg service. The price will be the same as the 15 meg service I said screw that the price is $59.95 a month that's a ton of money for little speed. Cox offered me a 12.5 meg service for $44.99.

Because they don't have to.

its going to be interesting when cox rolls out their 50 meg service to my town next year. I wonder what century link will have to compete with that.

They don't have to compete with it. Not everyone wants/needs the fastest internet out there. I have 512 and at this time I am very satisfied.

They won't compete. Cox 50 Mbit service is around $140.
