So now I am wondering why some customers would not be eligible. You have to be within roughly 1km of the CO or ADSL2+ SAC box.
For pictures of the new SAC boxes (JWI in Alberta) see the Kelowna upgrades thread. |

| reply to Telus Lurker said by Telus Lurker :The "powers that be" are aware of the 3.0/TTV limitation, and they don't intend it to be permanent. How are some people able to get 6mbps and TTV? I've talked to a number of CSR's and while they are very polite, I've only had one CSR who said it was possible. Sadly, we got disconnected before I could sign up and she didn't give me her name.
I've read that you need two clear paths going to your condo or house, but I haven't been able to convince the CSR to put TTV on one path and internet/phone on the other. One CSR even said that's not possible and would need to charge me two phone lines instead of one. |

| reply to Arbutus i dunno bout telus tv. but mts tv has alotted frequencies in the spectrum of bandwidth available. meaning, the settop box will auto negotiate with the bslam when it syncs up. this denotes how much bandwidth is useable, then it alotts 16.8 Mbs for tv in a certain part of the spectrum, and then setup up what is available for HSI. that is when it is decided on how much bandwidth is alotted for HSI. 3, 6, 12, 20. but these parts of the spectrum, tv part is only for tv. hsi part is only for hsi. they do not share or steal bandwidth from each other. |

| reply to Arbutus MTS's IPTV isn't vastly different than ours, aside from their different middleware. Their is no negotiation between the STB and dslam, and allocated frequencies or whatever silliness. That just isn't how DSL works.
They simply have different port profiles for different service plans and don't let their IPTV service steal bandwidth from their internet service and vice versa. This can be implemented on the dslam, or at the aggregation layer through policy management.
The upside to this is you always have a fixed amount of bandwidth available for internet service, the downside to this is you can't re-claim bandwidth on your DSL line for internet service if you aren't watching IPTV. |

| reply to joshb I am wondering,
If you get had 3 SD STB's 2.5+2.5+2.5=7.5 right there.
3.0 for internet
I am guessing you would be put on a 15MBPS profile right?
I WANTED 1HD and 2SD STB's but telus rep said that is not possible. He also told me getting 3 SD STB's would give me the 15MB profile, is this true? |

As for your question about what profile they will use with three SD STB's. It might be the 15 meg. That being said there is a 10 meg profile that does exist... Not sure if they use it at all but the scripts are in the system...

| Hey Jammer,
I keep reading about people somehow getting
1 Line for ADSL Internet 1 Line for TTV/Phone
AND STILL Getting bundle prices
How do you go about getting Telus to do this? Front line reps wont do anything. Do you talk with Loyalty and Retentions department?
My TTV install is on December 7'th so I have time to get that worked out. Rather have it setup with two lines so i can get 6MBPS internet still IF POSSIBLE.
Or is this all lies and b.s i keep reading ? |

2 edits | it's definitely possible.. it's luck of the draw who you get (I'm a front line rep). There's no actual place/dept to go to increase your odds. It's not official policy that it's done this way.. and since we have Sat TV now, it's not recommended any more, even by me. The only time I've done this recently is for customers that are in Apt/condo buildings as we can't do sat tv in those locations. If you do get it done, bundle prices should still apply. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

2 edits | What a fun DAY.... (NOT) My internet has been down all day today. I have to wait till THURSDAY for a technician to come deal with the ports that got messed from my TTV order. 6meg to 3meg swtich. Level One Techs could not do anything on there side. So now I am playing the WAITING GAME.
I am online off my mobile internet.(thank god for it)
Here is what happened. I called in at first to regular highspeed support in the Philippines. The guy was talking with whoever above them and said they would get it fixed. I was on hold and got disconnected.
I called back to the same highspeed support line and just got frustrated with the front line support from the Philippines. She told me someone from higher up would call me back latter and my order for TTV has been canceled. I TOOK OFF A DAY FROM WORK FOR TELUS AND THESE idiots cancel my order and i lose my install DATE. GRATE just GREAT. She claimed they can not trace who canceled the order? I was getting very pissed and asked to be sent to LNR, she asked for a reason i just said because i need to speak with them i don't want to be offensive to you.
LnR and i spoke. The guy was great. I got everything i wanted setup. Existing line for TTV/Phone NEW line for 6Meg Internet.
I get to keep it under the bundle price plus the permanent discount i get. So only 20$ per month for High Speed 6 meg. I got the same deal i was offered from last the canceled TTV order. The first month free and 6months 20 bucks off on TTV and all channels but movies/world stuff for first month.
Only lame thing is i have to call back tomorrow for the order to go though because there is one still in the system for me. But LnR assured me it is all ready for tomorrow.
As for Telus Satellite TV. I would not get it. I do not want a satellite dish on my house. Plus the TTV Watch a lot bundle for 54$ under bundle pricing is the best. It beats satellite tv options. Costs way more for satellite. I don't need any of the other HD channels besides Essential HD and Sports.
Now i wont mind getting a D-link Modem for TTV and i will swap my siemens for the speed touch! Lol I am a tiny bit frustrated that my internet is down but in the long run this should all workout nice.
Now I just need this craigslist guy to hurry up with my third telus STB, lol.
Also,
I wonder if I could get 1HD, 2SD provisioned seeing how i wont have a 3MEG internet connection on my line with TTV.
IF I CAN DO THAT wow i will be extremely happy with TTV. |

| reply to Arbutus I read most of the thread, dare to say it is a little confusing for a non techie. I have TTV and when I ordered it I was told it would not effect the internet speeds... obviously it has. I feel somewhat lied to by the sales agent. Im sure I asked the right questions but I was told it would all workout without any noticeable changes. My first Invoice was totally screwed up! it took 2 months to clear everything up! Now the net is ultra slow, ive called a few times to complain. HD is not an option "yet" in my hood. An option was to switch to satellite which I just had and switched for TTV! To improve the speeds I was told to unplug the TTV boxes if I wanted more juice for the net??? I unplugged 1 of the 2 that we seldom use and so far didnt notice any change... I downloaded something at a max of 170kps, my friend at the same time using Shaw was at 900kps! Im very disappointed here...... argh! |

| Everyone should do you're research before going with Telus TV. Callcenter agents can be wrong. Can't trust them very much.
If you get it setup right it can be the best deal in B.C by far. With that in mind you have to know it's limitations and how to semi work around them.
IE: Buy you're own box's (NO CONTRACTS THEN :P) Get two lines to you're house. 1 for TV/Phone 1 for ADSL. You would still get the bundle price!!
Before getting Telus TV, a good idea is to call in and verify you're area has HD. In you're case no HD, so an area without the newest upgrades or no open ports left.
Sluggy, call Loyalty department. Explain how you have been lied to and firmly but nicely demand a second run for the ADSL or you're going to cancel. They should do this for you. IT will take a bit of time but in the long run it is worth the hassle in my opinion.
That way you'd maintain your Internet speed and get a very nice price on TV! |

| Why would you buy your own boxes? It just doesn't make sense. You buy your boxes... and you're out the money IMMEDIATELY... you get the term and then you MIGHT be out money IF you cancel. hmmm... definitely spending money or taking the chance and paying a cancellation fee that's LESS than purchasing the boxes, and possibly not paying any cancellation charge (if you keep the service). Customers always say... "shaw doesn't have cancellation fees or contracts" THAT'S BECAUSE YOU PAY IT UP FRONT!!!!!!! You have you buy the freaking hardware. You're not going to cancel after you pay 400-600 for a pvr. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

| reply to Arbutus I bought 2 Scientific Atlanta 330 's for 55$ each used. I also have a Thompson IP1100T, got it for 40$. How is that a big expense?
I COULD buy the PVR for 200 used but i don't see the point. I don't need it. Rather torrent my TV shows. Also i dont like the way the telus pvr works so meh.
Telus has my home phone/internet 100%.
Home Phone=21$ (one calling feature/basic home line) Internet 6MEG=20 (perma price)(getting second run installed also like you guys suggested)
Home TV=54$ for watchalot under the bundle pricing. Very good price.
Telus rocks! Just have to deal with retarded CSR's and so on. Once you get it setup right you're good. |

4 edits | If you signed up before Nov 5 the cancellation fee was 120.00 You would have had the use of a pvr (sa430) and a regular stb (sa330), 3 year term... congrats you saved 10.00 BEST CASE, worst case you spent 110.00 that was unnecessary.
The 1100 is not used (cannot be used) for any new installs... basically you now have a brick.. total cost to you 150.00... why? You can't even sell it to someone else and have a clean conscious. Even if they currently use an ip1000 or ip1100 if they want any additional boxes (or need one repaired) they'd get them swapped to the new models anyways.
The current cancellation fee is 10.00/mo for the remainder of your term. You said that you don't want a PVR.. you could have had 2 sa 330's on a 2 yr term. Worst case cancellation fee 230.00 best case 0.00... If you had kept the service for 8 months and paid your cancellation fee you would have broken even. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

1 edit | 1.I have no contract. There is no cancellation fee.
I am month to month. If TTV sucks I can opt to go back in 60 days with Shaw and get another 6 months of cheap service. On the other hand if i like TTV, i can enjoy 7months of cheap service and again go back to shaw with a resign up discount price.
Soooo yeah? Why again would i sign a contract? I got shaw/telus by the balls. I can switch back and forth between them and get discounts. Wooot! to competition! and not paying these clowns full price for service.
2.The 1100 can be used, high level TTV tech department manager called me back and verified this. My order for TTV install was done through LnR, they know i have the 1100. So my "brick" will work on the one seldomly used TV. |
