| Multiple IP changes today
My IP changed SEVERAL times today! Here's my DynDNS updater log:
Anybody else see this? I haven't reset the router or modem, it has been changing all on its own ... seven times just today!

| Possible line issues? Modem stats? I was seeing multiple, random changes in the weeks preceding my F2 pair going short circuit (caused a loss of dial tone). Caught my modem training down from 3008 kb/s to 2496 kb/s once during that period. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| I had lost logging from my router when I upgraded to Snow Leopard and so I restored that today. What it is showing are brief line drops lasting 15 to 30 seconds. Every time it comes back up I get a new IP of course.
I'm not sure how to look at the router stats. I have it running in bridge mode and my router does all the PPPoE stuff. -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |

Probably easiest to temporarily connect a computer directly to the modem, and enter the modem gui IP address in the browser address bar. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| I've got a service guy coming out tomorrow. All the tests from the provider's end are reported to be fine.
Can I get the stats page even if I have the router in bridge mode? I do have the IP and access code for it. -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |

| reply to ctgreybeard What would this mean?
I have been running a slow ping against www.raytheon.com (that's who I work for so I figure that would eb a valid target.
During on of the mnay drops I have seen tonight I got that response from ping. I've never seen it before.

If you connect a computer directly to the modem, and don't start a software PPPoE session on that computer, it should be able to connect with the modem web server at the modem IP address. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

| reply to ctgreybeard For those that may be following along ... I've had two tech trips to the house. The line is "pristine" according to all their gear. We swapped routers, and the modem (brand new thanks to AT&T!) and now the modem is handling the PPPoE connection and it is still dropping with great regularity. They have escalated to the ATM gurus as it is now probably something in the build of the virtual circuit. The last tech even had them "rip and rebuild" at the redback as he said I was set up at 1500 when I should have been 3000. Download of 2500, upload 450 or so seems about right. I hoipe they get it figured out soon! -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |

| reply to ctgreybeard It's beginning to look like this problem has been solved. They sent the ATM gurus today who said they "made a couple of changes" and I can see that the PPPoE connection hasn't dropped in quite a while.
What an ordeal. -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |

| Yes, nice to have it fixed. I haven't checked today (I'm away from home) but it is looking good.
I will say one thing, though, that I am very impressed by the level of service that I have received from multiple people, both on the phone and in person. I was NEVER rerun through trivial tests and trials, etc. that had already been done. I did have to make some configuration changes to eliminate my hardware but that's to be expected. And even though no one thought the modem was the problem they did provide a new one just in case.
My experience on this is that all of the people that I dealt with are true professionals.
Thank you. -- Old dogs can learn new tricks! |
