| [northeast] Verizon FiOS in Buffalo, NY area
I was wondering if anyone has any more information about FIOS in the Buffalo, NY area.
Refer to this posting for older information: »[northeast] More Verizon FiOS available in Buffalo,NY
Does Verizon have any plans to expand any more? I am actually looking to see if they will be providing data service to (716) 681, 683, or 685 numbers.
Anyone got any info???? |

| I don't have any information at the moment as to what Verizon wants to wire up (it's hard to even get this information after all). All I can say is, I have noticed a bit of FiOS deployment taking place around Sweet Home Rd in Amherst (noticed a Fiber Distribution Hub around Dodge Rd. I believe), as well as in Tonawanda (which I think is completed along Ellicott Creek around the Boulevard). During the summer I did also see them in East Amherst. For the rest of the area, I don't have any information on. I'm hoping it at least keeps coming North out where I am, though seeing how far I am from the main parts of Buffalo or the Suburbs I'm on a long waiting list
I'd have to say that for that CO though, there's a good chance of seeing deployment since there are quite a few neighborhoods around. I have no idea if there is any FiOS in Lancaster though. -- "All your base are belong to me!" |

| reply to gymbo7319 That would be awesome if you could check it out at the boulvard. I appreciate it. I thought that Verizon was doing very good installing fiber all over the place, but it seems like they might have slowed down. It might have to do with the economy.
I also heard that Verizon has to go from town to town getting approval to install fiber. I wonder if there is a list they have of what townships they are planning on asking next.
I would go to the meetings and tell my elected officials that I want FIOS!! |

| reply to saint12 Saint12:
I was under the impression that the City of Buffalo when granting the franchise made a stipulation that the entire city had to be wired before they could activate service for anyone. This was likely to make sure Verizon didn't cherry pick neighborhoods and ensure everyone gets it. But this means they can't activate it neighborhood by neighborhood. Think this is why you keep seeing the outlying towns getting it one by one but not the city proper. |

Do they have a neighborhood map? So that if you are moving you can see the neighborhoods that have FIOS? First, I was unable to get to the Blvd. Mall last Saturday. I plan to stop there after work tomorrow. They do have a map showing which areas are wired and what areas are expecting to be wired up. I don't remember if it shows the entrie area such as the entire city or suburbs to the east as the Mckinley Mall has a Verizon booth and there map shows the southtowns covered and possibly, South Buffalo. Again, I will check the map at the Blvd. Mall. saint.... Buffalo has to be completely wired before TV is offered. Parts of the city that is wired, only internet & phone service is offered. As the surrounding towns & villages gave franchise agreements for TV, Verizon concentrated in those areas. -- Train Yourself To Relax...Ride The New Haven Railroad! Weather or No...Go New Haven! | reply to gymbo7319 When I had Fios internet installed, what I was told by the installer is that the city of Buffalo requires Verizon to have the town completely installed for everything (tv, phone, internet) within 5 years of beginning the first run.
Because of that, they're going around the suburbs and installing it there, so they can get their infrastructure in place in order to meet that demand.
I happen to live one block inside the city, so when they ran it down the street behind us, we were able to get internet. They can't provide TV to us, though, even though it's available on the line.
But for now, I can live with the 20/20 I'm getting, and kicked TW to the curb. |

1 edit | reply to gymbo7319 Just for the record guys, even though this is off topic I updated my pin on the FiOS coming soon map to note out that on Niagara Falls Blvd. down where Wegmans and Tops are there is fiber cable that has been strung by Verizon within the last few weeks that appears to be for FiOS. I must say though, they wired up that area really fast. If they wire up the rest of the area that fast it'd be here in no time. -- "All your base are belong to me!" |

| reply to TrainBuff I thought Time Warner was only upgrading the network to DOCSIS 3.0 in the Buffalo Division, unless they're replacing older Coax. What I saw without a doubt though was FiOS service as I saw nearby the White boxes on the lower part of the poles. They were the same boxes I've seen in other areas with FiOS. -- "All your base are belong to me!" |

1 edit | In my area, there has been contractors stringing new lines on T-W's existing lines. Some of the lines were fiber, so they could be splitting nodes. Just a guess. I know that parts of Amherst and hopefully other parts of the area, Verizon is installing fiber for Fios. I hope that you get it soon. You will like it. -- Train Yourself To Relax...Ride The New Haven Railroad! Weather or No...Go New Haven! The New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Co.:1872-1968. | I have a few relatives who have it, though they have the 20Mbps/5Mbps package. I love it when I go there and I see FiOS running I'm awaiting for the day it finally arrives. -- "All your base are belong to me!" |
