Torrent throttling

Does any personnel working in Cogeco know if/how torrents are being throttled? The weird thing is that I don't have problems downloading or achieving max download speed (and I don't upload on torrents), but I have problems with other applications like online gaming while my torrent application is on. I have problems maintaining or initiating connections. It sort of makes me think that it could be my router, but I don't have many concurrent torrent connections (maybe 10-30) and the problems exist even if I don't have any active downloads/uploads. My problems have surfaced only in the past few months and it is easily reproducible.

Anyway, this is pretty weird and I was hoping that someone could tell me if I was crazy/not before I look into my router.

Normally I use Azureus (or now Vuze I guess) and have zero issues gaming while cranking out heavy torrenting, but whenever I test uTorrent, I *always* have problems and it's impossible to game with my torrent behaviour. I'd try a different app, just for kicks.

Only the upload seems to be throttled, also I wouldn't be playing games online while torrenting, unless your plan is to lose!

EDIT: I also think they do a little traffic management on the down end, my friend which has Acanac and uses their SSH tunnel to bypass throttling is able to achieve on average superior download speeds to me on most public trackers.

Re: Torrent throttling

I use Azureus like urbanriot See Profile and have only one issue that I've noticed... I have a crappy wireless router that gets its connections maxed out by the program, so it overrules any web browsing I do (Yeah I know... Fail on my part). However, I do usually end up maxing out my upload all the time.
