Negative and I have to say those centres are so poorly organized as well. Spent 5 hours one day reading every single brochure in the place while waiting on a friend doing the G2 road test. The test was on schedule; however it was such a zoo it took that long just to file the paperwork.

It was fun to watch the examiners fail people before they even left the lot (bad tires, extremely poor driving, etc.) and watch others cheat on the written test (such as the G1) via language translators. Such a circus!

October 28, 1988. Two months to the day from when I got my "L" and that included driver's ed.

So if I understand things correctly, a separate third party is responsible for written and road tests? But no licence renewal, stickers, etc.?

This isn't something only kids get I hope you realize lol... some people decide on getting different license types too later on and they would be screwed right now as well .

June 4th, 1999...Thank you Graduated Licensing Mr. Rae.

Because I was born in November 1978 and not in January or February like my friends in the first year, it took me 4 years to get my full license (I could have got it sooner, but there was no real motivation to with the differences back in the day between G and G2...I wasn't driving at night and I never drink n drive...so...it was like having a G license in reality)..

Speaking of renewals, mine is up for renewal but I can go to our local Chamber of Commerce and pay there and get a new mug shot, yay!

So I guess it apparently doesn't affect me, so I selected No.

Yeah, it affected me on Tuesday morning...when the truckers decided to make a convoy on the QEW and the DVP in the middle of rushhour to protest the strike at Queen's park on the same morning I had to drive to Scarborough! I bypassed the lengthy backup in traffic and took the 407!

What happens to those whose G1's or G2's expire? Do they have to stop driving because their license expired or can they obtain some form of extension?

G1 and G2 drivers have been granted an extension until after the strike.

I believe the extension is granted until they do their driving test.

The strike doesn't affect registrations, renewals or plates. They are done in a separate office. This is just testing. The two functions were spun off each other years ago. The permit and registration function has always been privately contracted, and sometimes a means of political patronage or pork barrelling. Mind you, it also kept single parents working. I remember that in small towns you could go to someone's home, sit in their kitchen and get your fishing or hunting license. You paid your fee and the issuer kept part as commission.

It is a renewal but you need to do the written test to have it renewed. Since the DriveTest is closed, there are no written tests either. I am trying to find someone that can do it privately, but no luck yet.

We had a trucker in here a few weeks ago who was in the same predicament. He got his licence in the mail and because he could not do the written test he was dropped to a D licence.
He called the ministry and they gave him a number to fax and they sent him a temp renewal until the strike is over. If he is stopped, he has to show the paperwork he has. He did say it took a long time to get through on the fax.

I thought most of the driving schools had on site instructors who can give you the air test. I know the Ontario truck driving school in London use to do it.
