[STB] New Cable Boxes & Recent Installs in Sterling Heights, MI

I'll be getting Comcast soon (triple play). My brother-in-law is local to me and just got. The DVR he got was a Motorola DCX3400. So, that's the DVR I would expect to get too. I heard that DVR automatically switches between SDTV and HDTV mode depending on the type of TV it is connected to..... ?

However, what kind of standard box will I get for my other TVs? Since the DVR is a newer Motorola, is there also newer Motorola STBs they are giving out? My standard box will also be connected to a HDTV. Will the box be HDTV capable?

I'm in Sterling Heights, MI. If there are any people who recently got and install, I would like to hear your story...

Thanks,
C1K

Re: [STB] New Cable Boxes & Recent Installs in Sterling Heights,

Also, getting service soon. My in-laws have a DCH-3416, I like the look of the DCX-3400 and it appears to be the newer model.

Should I demand the DCX-3400 if the truck shows up with a DCH-3416? Can you do box swaps at an office somewhere like I could do with WideOpenWest?

I can't seem to find definitive information either on what size HDD is in either of these as Comcast is shipping them, along with estimated recording capacities for HD or SD content?

I ended up getting one DCX3400 and one DCH-3416 during my install. Both are decent but the DCH-3416 is very loud in comparison to the DCX-3400. If there's a way to get it swapped I will give it a try. Will have to see.

You can "Demand" all you want. More than likely if the Tech has them he will prolly install the newest DVRs he has first anyway. However I will tell you Techs can only install what they are issued from their warehouse. So basically if the tech didnt get any of those DVRs your demanding you will be out of luck. There is times when they wont have anymore of that paticular model to handout once their out of the ones they were sent. Then its a waiting game to get more of that paticular model.

You can swap it out at the local office. Just be nice and tell them you like the 3400. Im sure they will understand and if they have one it will be all yours.

Well by demand, I mean that as a new customer I can refuse installation until they have the proper equipment. But if they came with one of each like they did for C1k I would be fine with that because the new one will be in the HT setup, and the old one will be in the living room. Then I can look at swapping it out at a later time. I am not afraid of stopping at an office and doing a box swap, but I do not know if that is an option with Comcast in my market. The other case that I have seen before is that a tech (for other services) will sometimes just grab whatever box(-es) is(/are) on top in their truck and if they are asked for a specific model they will go look for it.

I had this happen with WOW! when we added our second HD DVR, the tech brought in a HD8300C and I asked him for a HD8300 so he went and looked in his truck and found one. Demand was a strong word, but I think you get what I mean.

What are the basic non-DVR HD Boxes Comcast uses?
