2 edits | Google To Amazon??
What the (!#)&(@##!~~% ?
I typed google.com into my Mozilla 1.6 bar, as I do about 3.5 million times each day (using autocomplete of course) and the Amazon Alexa page showed up!
The page source included:

What the? Scared the hell out of me. I thought for a minute that Amazon had bought Google (considering the text above).
After shutting down Mozilla, Google seems to work properly again. I don't think I'm infected with anything; this could be a byproduct or malfunction of Mozilla's search settings, or bad DNS behavior?
I never go to Alexa, and only rarely to Amazon. Never been to "A9" or whatever it's called. No odd "goo..." sites in my recently used list...

P.S. My "Default Search Engine" in Preferences is of course set to Google, as all deities intend. No new programs installed today, no extensions or other downloads, etc.

| Thanks, daniel. I knew if I stayed up long enough somebody would answer!
Darned buggy Mozilla. If only there were alternative browsers available...

P.S. But man it freaked me out. What would YOU do if Google suddenly disappeared or were horribly altered? -- In a realm outside causality and function | | Daniel Premium,MVM join:2000-06-26 Pleasanton, CA clubs:

My faith in humanity would be devestated. I'd stop dealing with computers, take up gardening, and eat a lot of oatmeal.

Make mine with apples and cinnamon.

| Hmm. I wonder if this new discussion at Slashdot isn't related to this anomaly :

quote: "Network Solutions has updated its whois interface, giving it an interesting new twist. On top of regular info provided, it shows data that appears to be from Alexa, including a screenshot of the homepage (though not terribly recent), as well as looks up your IP, and displays lots of information on it. It even shows the server type, if it supports SSL, DMOZ, Yahoo listing, traffic ranking, and lock status. This comes right after they announced rapid DNS updates. Perhaps they are trying to win over the geeks before they turn on sitefinder?"
