@patmedia.net | Looking to buy a modem...
I'm looking into buying a cable modem to avoid the $2 monthly rental charge. Does anyone have models they can recommend? Anything I should avoid? Look for? (besides being DOCSIS 2.0 compatible) Thanks, in advance, for the help! |

| Here's something to think about...
A run o' the mill cablemodem is going to cost $80. That means that you'll have to use PatMedia's internet service for 40 months (3.3 years) to just break even with renting.
If you plan on staying in your area that long, then go for it. Another good thing would be the possibility of using it with a different provider if you move.

| There are quite a few modems selling on eBay for $20-$30, so it would actually only be about year. Not a bad investment if you ask me...
Anyone have a particular model you could recommend? Or are you all just using the stuff Patriot gives you? |

| I have been using the Toshiba PCX2600 and have had no problems with it. I am probably going move to the Netgear CG814M which is an all in one modem/router/wireless802.11b. Wife is tired of resetting modem and router lately after loss connections on Patmedias part. |

| reply to sdm1130 I just got patmedia cable internet service and the tech that came out gave us a Motorola Surfboard 5100. Seems to be working flawlessly so far. Rated service here in Flemington is 3000/512 and my last speed test was 2810/480. I know it is no OOL but not bad if you ask me. |
