SBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundling LD

SBC has lowered their pricing to $19.95 for the Express Pkg and $29.99 for the Pro. There is no need to have the All-Distance package with this promotion.

Ummm...where did you see that in the article?

But there's a catch. The All Distance Package costs $48.95 a month, putting the total price of the DSL and phone package at nearly $70 a month. SBC's most popular price plan up to now costs $26.95 a month but does not require people to buy All Distance. For unlimited local phone calls, SBC charges $10.69 a month, keeping the total package under $40.

Apparently the author of the article is either not aware of or chose to ignore the various taxes and fees associated with phone service in computing the total price numbers

I am a bit confused here. IF I go to sbc.com and run through the packages I see the same prices $19.99 and $29.99. I don't see anything about purchasing the all distance packages other than this. I have a 2nd line and the 29.99 sounds pretty good so my kid stops eating up my bandwidth.

Would be nice if we could hook into this deal, but doesn't look like it's possible....

Not to put down, OnTheNet, but Annonamoose would be a better source on confirmation of this. As the moose stated:

So, you DO need to have the All Distance Package and commit to it for one year.

Well, this was just sent to me...

For the next 31 days, new residential subscribers to SBC Yahoo! DSL Express service who order online through sbc.com or sbc.yahoo.com will receive 12 months of the popular high-speed Internet access service for only $19.95 a month. The price —lower than any other similar offers by leading U.S. providers — requires only a one-year term commitment and SBC local phone service.

I dont know what to say now...

And they are charging 45 bucks a month for a static IP address. I would come back to SBC in a heartbeat if they would just get the static prices in line.

Ok, so that means that I can get the 29.99 PRO package on the 2nd line that does not have DSL on it now. Without subscribing to the all distance package. I guess a call or 3 is in order to make sure everyone says the same thing.

Yep, just read that it is for the month of March only.

Sorry, OnTheNet, its just that when we see items like this, we are usually skeptical until confirmation or press release.

But what about the current SBC customer. I just signed up for the PRO package (active as of this week). I guess I'm SOL. Right?

Well now that opens up a whole new idea. That original link CLEARLY showed that you still needed the all distance package. But hey, it's official and great for competition! I was waiting for them to drop that requirement, Time Warner has an Ad on the radio around here making fun of it and saying how you need to subscribe to a $48 phone plan.

Props SBC! My apologies to OnTheNet See Profile though that link took me to an article that you still need the package.

I would also like to know about existing subscribers. I'm currently on the $26.95/mo (Express) plan, and obviously already have SBC local phone service. I'd sure love to upgrade to Pro for $3.04 more per month.

BTW, this news is being featured on c|net's News.Com:

Ok, a new deal for newcomers to the service.

What about all of us 'loyal' customers?
I am still at I think 36.95 for the pro package.
That is before all the TAX, TAX, TAX, FEE, FEE, FEE stuff on the bill, of course. So it actually is more like $40 or so in the end.

I just got off the phone with customer service. The only way to get the new price is to disconnect service and then subscribe at the new rate. This really sucks!

no suprise really....

its just a promotion to get more people to sign up.. they dont want current customers to get the lower price.

just a question tho, what if you called in and started a new 12mo contract? would they re-rate you at the $29.99?

They might call and see what they say. Typically SBC's methods have been at first it's only for new customers. Then after 1-2 weeks current customers can call and get the same deal.
