[Internet] Explanation on architecture of Bell's Email system ?

Much ink has flowed about Sympatico customers being moved over to some microsoft mail infrastructure.

However:

the MX records for sympatico.ca point to 67.69.240.* addresses which are part of Bell Canada.

the MX records for bell.ca point to cluster3.eu.messagelabs.com with most IPs located in europe :-)

Does anyone have an explanation on how messages are processed when sent to an email address belonging to a retail customer of Bell canada (service formerly known as Sympatico) ?

And when those Bell customer retrieve messages via POP, IMAP or web, whose servers do they use, and where are their uncollected messages stored ?

Or asked differently: What exactly is Microsoft's role in all of this ? Do Bell custoemr messages actually get processed by servers on Microsoft premises ? Or did Bell just load some of their own servers with microsoft software/settings to make them integrate into the microsoft empire (with hotmal then able to access such messages stores as if they were physically in a microsoft data centre)

Furthermore, in the cases of corporations who have outsourced their emails to Bell, has that Microsoft relationship caused microsoft to be involved in any way, or are those commercial services unaffected by Bell,s cozy relationship with Microsoft ?

And finally, since BCE recently announced it was reducing its wedding vows with Microsoft in terms of the BCE web properties, has that also affected the microsoft-Bell relationship in terms of email service or has that remained unchanged ?

I'm getting very slow lookup speeds (15-25sec) and often a delay in the opening of a page, yet sometimes the page displays immediately, as if it was downloaded during the lookup slow down. This is new behavior for my Bell service. My download speeds at speedtest are the same old same old, but any help would be appreciated

Thanks

[Internet] Is this right for Internet Performance?

At night the latency gets terrible, which I don't understand because attentuation is low and SNR downstream is high. It can take ~20 seconds just to open Google. Reading through the forum people say there is some IKNS bug for the 6.0 SNR upstream, but is that right?

Also, should I not be on fastpath instead of interleave? First hop is 15-20ms.

[Internet] Not finding websites

Hi,

I'm in the Bathurst and St. Clair area of Toronto. I have broadband access.

Yesterday morning my connection suddenly started having problems finding webpages. It has been doing this off and on every since about every 15 minutes.

My connection is not going down, as the dsl light in on and my email works fine.

It appears I have a dns lookup problem. This is happening on two separate computers using the same hardwired router. Nothing was recently changed anywhere in the configuration.

I tried to flush the dns using the command prompt. That seemed to work, but 10-15 minutes later same problem.

I tried to set the dns following the suggestion here: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/sympat/4.0_Troubleshooting#7525

No luck either.

If I'm on a website already, I can surf around it while not being able to access any new sites elsewhere. It seems if a website is already loaded, I can use it provided that the domain name doesn't change.

Help!

Bell speedstream 6520 router, how to remoly acces router????

Hey there,

I am working on a clients router and he has bell and he has a Speedstream 6520 router. I have tried for about 2 hours to figure out how to remotly access the router. Usually on every other router i use i can press the "remote management" and assign port 8181, then i link there router to a dyndns host and boom i'm done.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it. I need to access it through the router remote access and not a pc software because there are no pc's on site..

Anyone with any information i'd greatly appreciate it.

Bell Internet Talk

Does anyone have this?

Skype has been poor as of late. Constant cut offs and low quality has me seeking other alternatives and was wondering how Bell Internet Talk fares in the Toronto region.

Is the quality decent? Anything to watch out for with respect to charges and contractual obligations? Basically anything omitted in the FAQ: https://internettalk.bell.ca/Product/FAQ.aspx#faq19

Thanks.

[Internet] Any thing faster than 5meg comming my way?

Hi

I wondering if bell will be upgrading the lines in our area. I live in oshawa by Ritson Rd. N. and ColdStream.

Right now I'm on a 5meg Internet Ultra with unlimited downloads (the old plan bell wants me off of)

I've checked on line and the only thing available to me is 6meg with the 25gig cap. Which is crazy for me to switch too as I bearly get 4meg to my house as it is and my average download is about 30gig at the highend..

House and area is brand new subdivision.

So I wanting to know if bell will be putting out Max 10 or faster to our area. If not I'm seriously considering going to Rogers as I can get 10meg or 15meg with 95gig to 125gig download cap, for not much more that I'm paying bell for my 4meg service.

Thanks for your time.
