Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!

After a long hiatus, we're happy to announce the release of Tomato/MLPPP v1.25-mp3alpha6. This release brings us up to date with the latest build of Tomato, and makes some other minor fixes. The most important one is an update to the default LCP settings that should significantly improve stability due to incorrect settings used in alpha 4 and 5.

Download

Grab it from http://fixppp.org

Known issues

* UPnP does not work at all with 1:1 NAT. This will be fixed by the first beta of mp3.
* The PPP bundle will occasionaly stop accepting IP traffic when reconnecting a line to the bundle. We're planning to have a workaround for this at the very least.

Changelog

* Fixed a typo ("dissabled by user")
* Updated base Tomato to v1.25
* Fixed the default LCP settings to avoid excess disconnections
* Added a system to allow updating settings the first time a new version is booted
* Added an override to change users' LCP settings on first boot if they're still using the alpha 4 defaults.

Future Plans

Forgot to update this in the documentation, here's the correct list:

v1.25-mp3beta1:
* Add a watchdog for the dead-link issue to at least maintain connectivity
* Fix UPnP with 1:1 NAT

v1.21-mp4:
* Add UI support for three or more modems
* Make the behaviour when a dead link is detected configurable; either wait for the remote end to identify a dead link and degrade to one line, or immediately rebuild the bundle, changing the IP in the process.

v1.21-mp5:
* Try to do sanity checks on invalid external 1:1 NAT IPs

I'm delivering mail on a route of about 1000 people but sadly I only had to deliver three of the TSI flyers to businesses. Would have been great to deliver these to the public as well.

And also noticed a TSI Billboard at the corner of Joseph and Victoria st in Kitchener. Good see this stuff.

Router Issues

Hi all,

I got a router recently, hooked it up and I get connected to the internet just fine using it but I do have an annoying problem.

From time to time, sometimes once an hour but sometimes every 20 seconds I get a window titled "Connecting to TekSavvy..." that pops up, its got the message "Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE)" with a Cancel button. Now, if I don't cancel it it seems like my browser looses its connection, if I do cancel it there is no problem. If the window isn't cancelled it gets followed up with another window that says there is an error connecting to TekSavvy, Error 815 and it gives me the option to redial, close or diagnose.

I want to get rid of this damned thing because without it my connection is just fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just signed up for DSL. Hello fellow Teksavvy users!

Okay so,

I just got off the phone with a fairly nice sales rep at Teksavvy... I felt like I was being rushed, but she was good-humoured at the same time. I ordered Residential Premium.

My line is currently still provisioned to 3web, but the cancellation date is on the 30th of September. 'Not sure which exact day it will start working again, but hopefully it will be smooth. In any case, I'm excited and looking forward to having a connection that I can actually use during the evenings again.

My router can already get a Teksavvy IP address and their DNS servers, but the internet still only seems to work through my 3web account. This is normal until the cancellation/activation day I hope...

I'm hoping now that I have the full force of Teksavvy behind me, I can man-handle Bhell into fixing my line :P I know, I know what you're thinking, but just let me have my moment.

I'm going to try to get a NID installed outside, considering the box outside is only a splice box and it's very hard to test from there.

I get errors even when connected to the splice box for less than a minute, but I'm on a 4032/512 interleaved profile right now, so the line only goes down every 2-3 days now that the profile has been tinkered with. With a 5000/800 fastpath profile, the line goes down dozens of times a day, especially in the evenings and over night. It stays connected almost all day during the day, though.

Anyways, I just wanted to say Hello to everyone and offer a heads-up because I'll probably be asking for help and advice. I hope that's okay.

I've already received a tremendous amount of help from a certain someone on this forum. You know who you are and thank you!

See you all around.

ugh more problems with dlink

seems its ok to have ethernet lan connections
aka
modem ( bridge mode ) to router

BUT soon as ONE wireless hooks up the whole net drops

this is more of a pain than its worth , how can or am i supposed ot setup the modem ( which is in bridge mode) to allow wireless
on a dlink 615
note i have i gave it back to guy downstairs and wont get it back for the night so thre is time, ive created a pppoe connection to go through the modem and thus have now ONE machine able to connect
need a solution thats going to work
speed stream 4200 ( modem ) to Dlink 615 ( router)
workd great with angelos help for ONLY lan ethernet use....as stated soon as wireless person connected POOF down it went.

almost like someone was trying to login to some other account maybe?

ps i put the modem into bridged mode....connected the router created a pppoe user /login and entered right ....
and that works ONLY for non wireless......

also what works is ONE computer connected using a created broadband account which is of course removed when the router should be doing everything.

Shoudl the router have some extra feature loaded up ill get sme screen shots of what i did tomorrow and it worked all last night and today as said UNTIL wireless was used.

TP-Link TD-8616: 3008/800-interleave not implemented?

Weird.

I've got one of those cheapie modem/routers from TP-Link here, and it performs wonderfully on our marginal lines. Just about as good as the ST516v6 does (got that here too).

But something strange: one of our lines is set for a profile of 3008/800-interleaved. The ST516v6 connects fine at that rate. But the TP-Link never uses 3008/800. Instead it uses 3008/768. Small difference, but I wonder if the firmware simply doesn't grok 3008/800 interleaved?

Any else here got a TP-Link on a 3008/800 interleaved line?

Thanks

Hi new to TekSavvy.

I recently switched from Bell, saving a nice 30-40$ a month from the over bandwidth charges, and the phone charges.

Anyways I got my router today and I was just wondering how do I tell if I actually do have the tomato firmware installed? Also how would I port forward using the Thomson wireless router? Thanks.

how accurate is the bandwidth usage info?

For example bell says their updates may be delayed by up to 60 hours on the website. I never tried calling bell so I don't know if calling would have been more accurate.

I'm with teksavvy now and calling is not a problem, but I would like to know exactly how much of a delay there is from the time that I download a file to when it shows on the screen of the guy answering my call.

Also, does anyone know of a good, free internet bandwidth usage tracker(i.e. don't count bandwidth used when i move files across my network). I don't want to install custom firmware on my router. Every program I've tried so far has crashed my computer(yes, I'm 96.4% sure it's due to this because nothing else has changed).
