IPN4320 DVR HDD Upgrade

Just a follow up on my previous topic: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22820411-How-to-open-disassemble-IPN4320-DVR

I removed the 320GB Western Digital drive in the DVR and replaced it with a 500gb Seagate 7200.11 drive. It booted up and took about 15 minutes to prepare the drive and the DVR service. There was data on the drive and of course I did not care about it but just a heads up it seems to format/partition the drive without any prompting! NEVER PUT A DRIVE WITH DATA IN THE DVR!!!

I put the old drive in a SATA enclosure and took a look on my PC -- it is 1 ~100mb FAT partition and a 2nd FAT32 partition for the data in a proprietary format. I had understood the entire filesystem was encrypted.

I took the liberty of replacing all removed security torx screws with normal PC screws. 6-32 screws for the hard drive mounting and M3-0.5 screws for the plastic casing & HDD bracket.

Using a 3rd party VDSL modem

First of all, if this is a taboo subject for the group, please go ahead and dump the thread, I'm not trying to cause trouble, just trying to further my understandng of why it is not possible;

from what I've picked up from here and other boards:

* U-Verse is VDSL/VDSL2, so a VDSL compliant modem will sync, assuming its capable of syncing at the correct rates

* the 2wire posts to a URL (https://cwmp.c01.sbcglobal.net/cwmp/services/CWMP) on a regular basis. If the POST does not happen, then service to the port is shut down

* the POST is encrypted and so its not possible to make that POST from a 3rd party device - which is intentional to verify that the 2wire gateway is still there

* AT&T authenticates the MAC address of the modem - however is this part of the POST?

* there is some talk that you can get something "between" POSTS, but nobody really specified if it was IP service; just that the service is disabled if the POST doesn't happen

is that it?

MusicShare

I think AT&T calls it "MediaShare" but just like the "Whole home watch and record" it as named wrong... anyways.

Has anyone figured out how to get the MediaShare to work when all my computers are on a 2nd router meaning the subnet is not the same as the RG?

U-Verse Commercial

Ever notice in the "remote standoff" commercial, that at the end, when they show 4 shows being recorded at the same time, they're all in the 1000-range, implying that U-Verse can record 4 HD streams at once.

False advertising, anybody?

tired of this flakey DVR software

Having come from Tivo, the U-Verse DVR software (MS Mediaroom) is really starting to irritate me.

I recorded one movie during the 11/26 freeview. Won't play back, just black screen.

Rebooted the DVR (power button for 5 seconds) and shortly thereafter I recorded three more movies simultaneously. 2 of the movies will playback but you can't fast forward/rewind, 1 of the movies won't play back, just black screen.

I've now power cycled the DVR. I better not have any more problems--this freeview, for me, should be renamed a "demonstration of the crap reliability of the U-verse DVR". It's certainly convinced me not to upgrade from U200 to U450 as I'll must miss more recordings.

I miss Tivo.

STB has trouble seeing and playing recorded TV

I have been having trouble with one of my STBs. It will occaisionally not see recorded programs or pause and skip while playing a recorded program. I have replaced the coax cable fitting. I thought it might be bad because if I unscrewed it and then made it tight again the STB would start working properly. The problem is intermittent and started working again after RG reboot today.

I have looked at the 4way splitter and it is a red 1Ghz. I don't know if this is source of the problem or not. Everything seems to be working right now. However I know it will fail again. The other STB I have connected works fine, it is just this one run upstairs that fails at times.

The HPNA stats show 112 most of time but the STB with the problem does drop to 96 or 80 at times. Is this an indcation of coax problem?

Can anyone give me some guidance on what may be causing this?
